To change one's ideology without a revolution, appoint a fascist demigogue, then go into the special decisions panel and, for 75 political power points, click Open Up Political Discourse. After that you have to wait until the government has more than 50% fascists. If you want to speed up the process, you can spend poli. power pts. to expand party support and smear the current goverenment. Then soon enough you go back to the decisions panel and, for 100 poli. power pts, choose Hold A Referendem. Then presto! - you are as fascist as the Devil himself (nothing to be proud of).
I just wish the game had more fun options for the USA - something they could do with the election system perhaps, and make it unique for the USA. I mean, for instance, recently they added the excellent option for Germany of opposing Sauron I mean Hitler (and then you can re-instate the Kaiser or, through democracy, reverse the WWI braindrain - beautiful!). Why not for America have alternate socialist paths, ones that challenge the authoritarian view of socialism of Stalin and his ilk?
You know, instead of Fascist you can go Communist - that will give you much the same power over your civics and ability to justify wars. And you don't have to be Communist in the sense of Stalin, nor join the Comintern. Think of it as a temporary "war powers act" just to get friends with Stalin so he will let Patton put his tanks in Poland (to attack the vile Reich) - and Omar Bradely (or good ole' Patch) put troops in Sibera (to attack Manchuria and Japan).
If you could be Democratic and get Stalin to like you enough to put troops in his terratory, then you could take over the world! If you stay democratic and take out all fascists and all the Comintern, and make the whole world Democracy - not just through war but also through spending poli. powers pts...
ONE OF THE KEYS TO VICTORY IS ***POLITICAL POWER POINTS***. :)
I agree with what you said to those two, they get salty that people don't do stuff their way.
You might want to do the monroe doctrine before you switch unlike the answer you selected. I believe democratic USA gets a wargoal on Venezuela, which is a better country to annex than Chile.
Countries getting democratic support from you doesn't matter, because chances are you'll annex them anyway.
