Stuck on Loading Screen

Hearts of Iron 4 refuses to load. I have tried many things (reinstalling, dropping firewall) but nothing works. More specifically, it gets stuck on loading GUI. It loads a little, then doesn't load anymore. This started happening right after a Windows 10 update, so I'm thinking it has something to do with that.

Try to go to the main game directory in your steam folder , find the main application and right click on it, click propertys and click on compatibility settings tab then just check the box above "Windows 8"

I have found the solution.

I had an issue in the past where the game would randomly crash my computer. I found the fix for this, which was putting "-opengl" in the launch options. Removing this has solved the problem.

I will update whether the other issue comes back.

With OpenGL the performance will be worse though. If it works well enough that's fine, but otherwise I'd recommend you to get in touch with Paradox support[www.paradoxplaza.com] to sort this out.

I have the same problem. After the Windows 10 update the game won't launch.

I had a similar problome and thought the same thing but it turned out my c++ 2010 was curropted and was having a run time error , i recomend finding a repair tool for c++ 2010 and try running a autorepair (I forgot where i got mine , sorry)

You are right, it could very well be a problem with the C++ redistributables.

Tried all the fixes still kept stalling and crashing the support is pretty poor

I tried everything and nothing worked reinstalled it about 4 or 5 times but fixed it by changing directx 11 to directx 9 (legacy) in HOI4 Launcher game settings tab. Hours wasted when it takes 2 seconds to fix
