Getting rid of "Undisturbed Isolation" while going for the south

I've been trying to figure out how to actually get rid of things like great depression and undisturbed isolation by lookin at the national focus tree. It seems impossible as most of the focuses regarding these require a democratic government. Or do you stay as a democratic government as the South or something?

Hi Off, I had the same issue as you when I tried playing the south. I found that I was able to switch from undisturbed isolation to wartime economy when the civil war started. For whatever reason the game allows you to switch your economy law once that happens.

I don't know if the civil war procts every playthrough, so hopefully someone has another solution as well.

Its probably the "at least 50% world tension and/or at war" requirement
