May escalate other nations leaving early as well
IMO, best to just wait it out and let Italy and Japan cheat, thereby activating escalator clauses. The treaty drops off on its own eventually (in an historical game).
As if the UK can do anything to the USA in this game.
OP, there's really no downsides except that other people might leave early as well.
The UK can destroy the US navy, which is a pretty big deal for an island nation.
