How complex is it compared to, say, Civ 6?
I've never played a grand strategy game before. How complex is it compared to a 4X game like Civ 6 or Stellaris? Is there a good tutorial? How much Youtube video watching of tutorials would be necessary to get a good grasp of how to play?

Thanks!

It is very focused on actual war and combat in big depth that is way more complex than eg. Civ.

Turtorial in game is not so good but there is tons of videos that do job better - and likely it is better to watch ithose for check how game looks and is played anyway to make own decision.

Omg civ6 is so complex you wont imagine compared to hoi4, in civ 5 their production team was balanced between all kinds of things, ai, mechanics and all that, civ 6, only introduce mechanics after mechanics.

I feel like the maker of CIV LEAGUE influenced their choices for making the game.

It's very different. For one HoI IV is real-time (with pause if you're in SP) instead of turn-based. It's also as noted way more focused on warfare, and managing logistics and production in a more detailed fashion. (Actual fuel stockpiling, factory retooling making an impact on military equipment production etc.) There's comparatively very little focus on expansion and infrastructure building in return. Overall, they're very hard to compare.

It is not the same but as a Civ V player it certainly scratches a similar itch for me.

If you like the war waging aspects of Civ games then you'll find a much deeper version of it here ... if you want the actual nation building, exploration, peaceful expansion and the 'civil' stuff that comes outside of war ... you'll find it lacking.

Europa Univesalis IV is probably the better starting point. This is a war game rather than a grand strategy.

Warfare in this game isnt more complicated either tbh, it just looks more complicated. You look out for terrain modifiers and you have a planning bonus. Thats pretty much it. You do have to "design" your own divisions (=units) but you will end up only using 2-3 different unit types total. It is very basic really.

Personally I think it is on par if not more complex than the Civilization series. It requires more micromanagement compared to the Civ series when it comes to war.
