i meant that they literally pummel through the maginot line w/o the lowland countries joining in
Also the german general with the fort buster trait can tear through fort lines, no matter the level.
That's why you want to remove any Front Line orders, so your troops don't move around as the border changes.
Germany might not go directly straight, they might take some turns.
So the use of literally means they go directly straight through
So Germany going straight through Maginot does not mean Germany going straight through Maginot but taking turns. I see....
It's like driving a car. You say you'll drive straight there, but sometimes there isn't a road directly to the location you want to drive to, so you have to take some turns.
If you say you will literally drive straight there, chances are you're going to be driving through someone's home.
Italy does not necessarily punch through on their own. France often does a lot to help - in fact she tries to do too much, too early.
I watched this scenario a number of times:
1. France loses mountains early - skeleton crew can't hold any serious offensive and it's too late to bring random divisions to plug the gaps.
2. French successfully establish a defensive line somewhere near Rhone. They can hold it for months, but...
3. Inevitably, French conduct multiple offensives, bleeding themselves dry against Italians, who ocupy hills and mountains, often behind a river, not to mention French forts.
4.1. Italians dig themselves out of a pile of French corpses and walk to Paris.
4.2. Italians lose here and there, Adolf sends some units, proceed to 4.1.
In fact, while WW2 scenario plays out correctly in general ("France dies early"), anything like OTL or, at least, some Schlieffen redux is relatively rare. French AI is often capable of holding out against Germans for a while - sometimes with no signs of any impending collapse. But then Italians ruin everything by either walking to Paris or by drawing French forces to the point Germans break through.
I kinda wish for a DLC with some sort of Allied Council, where you can eg. try to convince AI to play defensively against a specific foe or in general.
True, whenever I play HOI4 I usually see Italy taking France, not Germany. Chances are most of the German army is in the south with italy as well though.
