What is up with this French Commune??
I consider myself a history buff and have never heard of this. Is this the PC name for Vichy?

Anyway France capitulates and the French Commune then has the audacity to join my faction without my permission, initiiates a non-aggression pact again without my permission. This effectively stops my from invading Spain since I can't invade from a neutral country.

I declare war on the Commune but I can't invade the Commune because of the non-aggression pact. The non-aggression pact never seems to end. I can't find out how to break it or what the parameters are.

Incredibly frustrating. I am playing historical. Any ideas?

Frence Commune is the communist goverment for France. I have never seen Frence Commune form on historical unless I take special path as Imperal Germany. (HRE path) who do you play as and what goverment?

I play as fascist Germany, historical.

The French commune is the name of a revolutionary government than took over Paris after the defeat of 1871 against Prussia. It happened after the French leader, Napoleon III, got tricked and played like a symphony to declare war, unprepared, which triggered the unification of Germany in the process with all the consequences we know for the shift of power in Europe. Bits of France got annexed in the process (Alsace-Lorraine) and were only retrieved after WW1.

This French commune got ultimately crushed and the Republic restored, but the legend lives on even today (a far-left political movement: "France Insoumise", isn't far from 25% today and frequently refers to the French commune). The term first appeared after the revolution against monarchy of 1789, so it's been around a while. It's also a solid alternative-history theory of what would have happened to France if WW1 was lost. Another costly military defeat to the Germans? The Republic would most likely not have survived.
Even in our timeline the "classical" parliamentary regime got reformed and hybrided with a presidential regime: the French President gets directly elected by the people and concentrates a lot of political power compared to other European democracies.

See the mod Kaiserreich for HOI IV: 1936 in a timeline were Germany won WW1.

I'm not sure you could call it a PC equivalent of Vichy which was just a fascist puppet State, but in game I guess yeah, kinda.

Edit: if by PC you mean "politically correct" then no, they're more "Parti Communiste".

Thganks. Informative.
How do I get them to stop automatically joining my faction and automatically entering into a non-agression pact with Germany? Again, I'm playing historical although it sure doesn't seem that way.

It's either a bug or a mod you forgot you had enabled.
If it's a bug then there's nothing you can do other than maybe reinstall or something.

You should be able to break a non-aggression after a few years. Or if you both have a certain percentage of troops on each others borders.#

If they're in your faction then I think you'll have to either kick them or you'll have to finish the current war and kick them out then.

It's not a mod. I have this happen to me every once in awhile. I'll be playing as Germany and declare war on Italy and then Greece just invites itself into the Axis. I have no desire to be friends as I'd like them to be part of Germany instead. But then I have to kick them out, break the pact, and declare war on them.

This is with no other allies to invite them in. Just oh solo me oh.

Isn't that because a faction you're at war with declared on them? If so it's normal, you have to monitor those war goals...
I know this thread is almost a year old but...I think in almost all scenarios with "Historical focus" unchecked, France becomes communist every time (unless you play as them). I've only played a few campaigns, but each with a different nation and in different modes/difficulties.

Has to be something in the AI.
