Tripartite Pact

If soviets declare war on germany, wil japan auto join war against soviets?

Playing as germany. At war with only allies, year 1940 and suddenly japan, that is not in axis but has its own asian prosperity faction, offers me to join tripartite pact. Should i accept or not? What are difference? Must be different consequenses for accepting tripartite pact or refusing?

If you refuse japan will not likely join the axis and sometimes does its own faction. No real penalties should be involved.
On the other hand letting them join you could bring you at war with US earlier than expected (the US is still probably going to attack you later in the game)

But what if i join tripartite pact and later soviets attacks me? wil then japan join war against soviets?

well historically they usually don't

Japan isn't going to join axis either way since they usually already made their own faction before the tripartite pact.

what do mean? you mean in real life? I mean in the game what wil happen?

also as The Spanish Inquisition says you wouldn't have direct ally so...

Yes, it's year 1940 and japan has its own asia prosperity faction. I am most concerned wheather japan wil auto join defensive war against soviets, when soviets attack me (germany)? I kind of don't want them to join war vs soviets since they wil be crushed by them too fast.

pripartite pact works only if it's defencive war? was you attacked or you declared war?

If i understand tripartite pact, it's only about defensive war? If any of germany, italy or japan attacked by another country, the other 2 countries auto join defencive war? In such case if germany declares war vs soviets, japan won't join war, but if soviets declares war on germany, such in my case, japan has to join defensive war to defend germany against soviets?

It happens alot make sure you dont have historical focuses on if you want it to happen

I believe that since they did that update with "asia prosperity faction" the event of tripartite pact has lost value (also japan has an AI modifier called warrior's code or something that makes more difficult to call or join an ally in war (you can see this before starting the game), but if you want to be more sure of japan not attacking you can refuse and maybe it helps

I think it might make japan like -10 relations you, not sure but its definatly nothing very bad. The point of it is to try and push Japan to join you for their navy.
