British Raj, British rule and Lord Linlithgow
Alright chaps, a very simple question for you : I might be interested in playing something else than Germany after 238372 Reich playthroughs, and that something might be the British Raj. Problem is, from what I know if you don't want to die of boredom you have to become independant (Swaraj and Quit India focuses if I'm correct) which basically turns you into India (with or without Pakistan, depending on which focuses you chose).

What if I want to remain a British colony, while at the same time modernizing to remove all those nasty national spirits ? Is there a way to achieve this ? Can I keep Lord Sexythgow as a ruler ot will I have to become India at some point ?

I have played India a bit, and to remove Risk of Famine you need to become a Dominion, which removes Linlithgow, whichever focus you chose. You can stay a Dominion, however, as there are several autonomy reducing focuses that give you boosts.

1. Never go free you automatically switch to democracy I belive, it might be dominion status I cant rememebr I just know you turn democratic at a certain level of freedom.

2. the pakistan man power problem can be solved by telling you will let them be indpenedent when you go indpeendent, so just never go free, you could but you will have to reconquer them after wards.

3. the democratic path is the best way to get the most manpower which is extranoridanry cause usually its the other way round you will get 9% recruit factor which really helps fight the 69% from the agriculture focus idea, plus 10% from the promise of independnce from pakistan, then another 10 when they go free (but you will lose a few million potenital soliders that way.

other then that you get a few nice industry injections from british investments both in your own tree and in the brits, though with the upcoming man the guns DLC they could crastically alter you will play

Ty to you two, I guess I'll have to become democratic, even if I stay under British rule. Kind of disappointing how there's no focuses allowing you to go on as a strictly British-ruled colony... even the Soviets and Germany have juicy ahistorical paths involving becoming autocratic empires again...

India's focus tree was part of their first DLC, and compared to the base game they were far more liberal with alternate-history to go communist or fascist. India's focus tree is probably the most realistic out of them all considering its own restrictions, but they might come back to it later if they keep tweaking all the major power's focus trees to make it a little more open (Germany's only alt-history options prior to Waking the Tiger were the Berlin-Moscow Axis, the Anti-Soviet pact, and Spanish and Turkish alliances.
