Japan declares war on Nationalist China out of nowhere
So I was playing as NC and japan took the support Kodoha faction (the non-aligned path) and I though "Great, I don't have to worry about being invaded.
But then in about april 1939 without any warning (no notification saying they were justifying or taking a national focus that would give them a war goal) they declared war on me!
I had no troops on the border as I was fighting the communists and Guangxi Clique.
How did they declare war on me? Why didn't I get a notification?
Any answers would be greatly apriciated.

And to make it stranger, after they defeated me, japan only took the costal states and let me go.

Non alligned only take states which they really want, and since they cant puppet or change goverment, they only tole what they wantef

Ok yeah I get that, but that still doesn't explain how they declared war on me out of nowhere

I have also run into this problem with road to 56 mod idk if it is that but it is so anoying how there is no warning.

Nah, see. The Commie Chinese guys have the option to provoke the Japanese regardless of what path they pick. It also instantaneously gives them annex war goals on China and Commie China.

This.

If you are in the United Front and if Japan is provoked, they get a CB to declare war. Japan usually doesn't take the bait unless you are weak. Sounds like this is what happened.

They seem to do it early so i guess the only way to stop it is to kill them early?

The best option always is to conquer/puppet the Warlords and conquer Communist China. Its easily done before 1937 and solves all the problems that come with the 'peaceful' way.
