Special Forces Cap....
So i guess the game was heavily updated since i last played it. Why are Marines and Mountain troops considered special forces? that makes no sense to me. They are regular units specially trained for a certain environment.

Now i can only do a naval invasion for four unit slots of Marines thats not enough at all for a naval invasion. Plus playing as Japan Mountain Troops are crucial for the terrain of china and their allies and i can only make a max of four divisions. Why? this is so stupid. I cant invade them with normal infantry cause thats suicide.

When i think special forces i think Spetnaz, SS, Rangers. Special Forces are forces that are trained in the harshest of environments of EVERY TYPE. And designed to go where no other troops can go. they are extremely small in number for a reason. while Marines are specialized in river, amphibious warfare only and then are normal troops. was this updated for the Multiplayer? cause people would spam them? I never play multiplayer.

I know i can upgrade special troop numbers in the research tree but thats not until 1940 and beyond. Im japan and want to invade china by the latest 1938. So what new templates could i possibly use for infantry. I always had a mix of infantry and mountain infantry. Idk what to do now.

Any suggestions?

just use regular infantry instead, they capped it because people were spamming out mass marines/mountaineers, which didnt really make sense if you think about it.

i do world conquests all the time using pure infantry to hold the line, 20 width and 40 width later.

they can push too but you'll lose a good bit of manpower most of the time, what you use to push are the tanks, and use the limited special forces to make other openings.

your 4 marines + 6 infantry can take a chinese port easily for example, their troops are trash.

+1, Paradox recently butchered not only Hearts of Iron 4, but also its core mechanics. I understand a special cap for super units like paratroopers or super heavy tanks, but basic (and incredibly important) catogory of unit.
I mean even when you have the benises out there that say stuff like "oH its fOr reALiSM AnD iMMErSiOn!!!!11!" I highly doubt that during the pacific war, the United States only employed the use of a grand total of *4* divisions of Marines.
Plus they cant even use the excuse of "oH WeLL You cAN onLy HaEv 4 dIvIVsiOns bUt yOu Can chAnGe TheIR TeMPlAte tO hAve MoR" you can only have a couple of brigades in each unit, so you can either choose to have 9 marines divisons with a singular brigade, or 1 decent division.

i googled it, and you're right. the US had 6 marine divisions, not 4

Lol, exactly, we need to sue paradox for historical inconsistancies.

well apparently even the first two divisions werent fully active until 1941, but if they add a 1941 start date i better see those two marine divisions or I WILL sue

Anyway sorry for the rant, i've been a little tilted about this for a while and haven't really been able to talk about for sometime. Good day and good health to you all.

you are right though it's the most annoying thing when i'm the UK, the big naval power, and I don't have any marines, and I also have to research marines. that's kind of dumb if you think about it

It's an annoying change for sure. There's a mod called Increased Special Forces Limit that fixes this. Maybe others that fix it as well.

To find the ratio of army/SF battalions {BNs}, tap the Army button, gives you numbers that you now have .
With '36 starting techs, raise another 20 army BNs to get another SF BN .

To UP this 5% to 10% of BN count, go to research, INF tech, and at the bottom is the SF tree; tap the first one, and where it splits, go to the bottom 2nd choice .

Once this 2nd choice completes, you NOW only have to raise 10 BNs/ 1 SF BN !

Thank you for the replies you guys! and well i tried doing this and it says i would be over the limit cause i put this in my templates. and i have 30 divisions or so. guess i just download that mod that gets rid of this cause its too much of a pain lol

yeah if you don't care about the achievements, use mods to your hearts content. I always use the no division cap for field marshals mod

yeah i just want to play the game and not care about the stupid achievements! hehe! thank you so much :)

Also, I believe that the Special forces cap can be increased by doing the Sepcial forces national focus.
trulias May 25, 2018 @ 1:28am
naming these troops as special forces was very wrong in the first place. these are at best normal commando units, most of the time normal infantry with some specialized equipment. if we thing about pretty much every nation have tropicalized units even in ww1.
Stupid achievements? What you mean? Achievements the only goal of playing the game. Otherwise you're just sandboxing without any goals.

some of the achievements are stupid, and a lot of people play the game for fun only, with the goal to win the game

It really does make sense to paradrop 200 divions into france
Or, as france, have your entire force consist of mountaineers.
Only building marines as the US because inf really isnt needed.
