HOI4, worth buying? how is the multiplayer working?

I would be pleased if someone could describe me how is the multiplayer in this game working.I downloaded crack hoi4 so I could try it, and I want to buy it now because I dont want to violate rules ( I know I already did but excuse me I wont pay 60€ for game that may be some really bad ****) and also I want to buy it because I really like it now and I want to support developers but as far as I know there shouldn't be any matchmaking , just custom games. So ,someone who has experience with these custom games - is it open to new players? Is there always some custom game going on where I can join? I know nobody wants noobs but lets say I m good at this game. And if there are always some custom games open are these games worth playing? I mean if the host isnt often leaving and so the game dont just ends in middle of the war. Thanks for answer.

its best to find a discord (or whatever server) because as you know, these matches take time, and unless you talk it out with the host, you never really know how long they can play or when they might disconnect or leave. but other than that it's pretty much just a lobby of custom matches that you can join.

theres always open games when i check and plus some of them will have 'hot join' turned on so you can join during the match if you want. but of course you could always just host your own matches.

this game gets insanely fun in multiplayer when playing with friends because you can try to play certain 'scenarios' and really make use of how sandbox this game is.

There's a lot of cheats and exploits in MP at the moment. Just read this and other forums and you'll see people complaining about rip-off games.

Yeah but in 6 days allot of stuff is being revaped with most likely a sale with a new dlc. 16-17 usd on sale. The only necessary dlc is together for victory and death or dishonor which both go on sale for 7.50 but is not nessisary. I played over 100 hours without the dlc.

MP with randoms will be . . . random, but most propably a bad experience with trolling, exploiting and/or abandoned games.

MP games with likeminded friends are awesome.

If I will buy base game only (cadet edition) can I still join mp games ? I cant image how it works. Does it affect only single player games or does it mean I cant host games or that I can only join to games with same (base) version?

Yes only with the base game. Some mods do have multiplayer

In MP games the DLC's the host has active are the ones that everyone in that game uses (even if you don't own them). So if you own the base game and I host a game with everything active, you can join it.

Only restriction is the ingame checksum which must match, which in turn means that you have to have the same mods active as the host of the game you are joining has (if any). The checksum is based on the game patch version and not affected by DLC's but most mods do change it so therefore make sure the mods match.

One more question. Servers for mp, are they lagin? Surely they dont crash but is the ingame time going somehow slower and more lagi then it goes in single player?

It will lag if your system/internet is not up to par.

You are hosting your game. The lag is from cpu process late game which seems to be addressed in the upcoming patch on the 8th. Overall MP works fine. If you're into WW2 strategy I don't know of another game that is as in depth as this one.

So I just bought hoi4 but when I try to join mp it always says : Conection timed out or server has declined the join request. Any idea why?

Can you get a refund? Make sure you stay under limit for a refund.
