HOI4 doesnt work after Windows 10 update?

I got an update for windows 10 and restarted my computer so it would install, but when I launch HOI4, it doesn't work. I go to the launcher and hit play, and it just doesn't launch, it's just a black screen and if I click my mouse it closes because it stopped working. I tried deleting all the files of the game and reinvalidating my cache, but no luck. Help? wawa

Same issues here, haven tried reinstalling yet. Is it confirmed reinstall helps?

window mode makes the game start again for me...

btw... I can not 100% tell if this issue occured the first time after the last Microsoft patches for W10 or the last time the NVIDIA drivers have been updated...

Just change the property "fullscreen=yes" to "fullscreen=no" in your "...\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\settings.txt". Works for me. Not only for HOI IV. I had the same problem with EU IV.

Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV\ _CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\ and run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe

A windows update broke the game, and a game update seems to have fixed it. Version 1.5.4 is working for me. This is probably why re-installing the game works for others as it forces the newest game files.

If, for some strange reason, you can't rely on a steam update you can try to find the patch for version 1.5.4. After updating necessary files it started working for me.

I tried the suggestion provided by Down_Under_4U and it worked perfectly. My machine is a development machine that is brand-new focused on Visual Studio 2017 and I think it needed the C++ runtimes from 2010.
