Why is there no later start dates?
has Paradox released a statement on this? It seems odd to me the HOI 3 had the later dates but not HOI IV why wipe a feature that would make the game more fun and interesting?

I think it's because they saw that many people didn't play the later start dates and decided it wasn't worth the effort to add them. I believe there is a quote somewhere by one of the HOI4 Developers or something like that which says the above.

Considering the only time I've ever booted up a 1939 start was on accident, I'd say it's safe to assume that mid-war starts were fairly unpopular.

Huh. I always thought it was interesting to try to play as a Axis country trying to stop the Allied onslaught in 1943 or 1944, but hey different people different tastes I guess, perhaps a fringe idea like that is better kept to the modding community.

Knowing Paradox i expect that more start dates will be added in a future DLC.

Because the vast majority of people (over 95% ) prefer the earliest date given.

That would actually be pretty great, you could play as the Weimar Republic and maybe take some steps to prevent Hilter from getting the Chancellery. Even before that would be nice, but that would probably not appeal to many folks.

And it wouldn't be a WW2 game.

Fair enough.

The major buildup just starts in 1936-37. Starting in 1930 would just lead to a whole slew of new options for the main conflict. Not saying such would be a good start (1933 is probably the earliest you can go and retain enjoyment for the majority [Which would be a logical year as well]).

More of just a personal interest (Not good for PDX or the majority), I would just love the opportunity to influence the long term events that influenced nations prior to WWII/Post WWI.

Yeah, i think 1933 would be the earliest start date you could get considering there wouldn't be a war if Hitler didn't take power. Would be good for ahistorical gameplay i guess if it started any earlier but i think everyone plays these types of games for the historical aspects tbh.

Speaking of 1933, i wish it started a bit earlier so i could re-enact this as the Soviet Union: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j42Xlxg4AE

lol Mods would definitely be the only route for that though. PDX tries to steer away from civilian deaths and all the other very deplorable actions. Would be interesting for a game mechanic though, such as it could make the Ukranian region's resistance low against foreign invaders (If the invader such as Germany were to choose the matching event [Such as a decision between slave labor or cooperation with each having their own pros and cons]).

I don't understand why Paradox shies away from the whole civillian deaths thing. It's war, civillians die in war. What's the problem???. One thing that pissed me off about this game is the censorship Paradox tried to pull on Germany. Censoring the Nazi flags and historical pictures... i mean really Paradox?. If you're going to make a game about WWII, there's going to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Nazis in it!.

You didn't see them censoring the Imperial Japanese flags or their events and they commited worse war crimes than the Nazis did at some points during the war!.

1.) Paradox doesn't include killing civilians so that people don't release a news article about some WWII holocaust or genocide simulator ruining the next generation of humans. Whether or not the criticism is reasonable isn't the point, simply put the PR problems that result from having that are not worth the minimal gameplay improvements.

2.) Paradox can't release Nazi symbols since they're actually censored by a lot of governments (they can't even show a picture of Hitler in the German version). Plus, that's easily modded back in if you actually prefer it.
