In addition, the planning bonus only actually helps if you wait until you have full planning to attack, and even then it wears off relatively quickly.
So you guys would say the night bonus offsets the 20% planning bonus and better tactics?
Against a human im always picking right side because a human won't allow you to sit there for a month to build up planning without trying to stop you. Against the AI, it's a litteral curb stomp to get the 100% max planning bonus.
Aside form that the other factor is theatre, smaller fronts get greater use out of Assault, places like North Africa and Italy for example, but mainland europe gets greater use from infiltration due to the size of the front you gotta cover and the speed at which the advance travels. You simply don't have time to build up a month of planning.
However I still believe sf is meta due to other misc bonuses
the general bonus are very good, but if you don't use a few arty divisions(at least 4arty4inf for exemple) you only get the global bonuses.
but digging/ planing and night battle affect every kind of division
