Any way to convert an ironman game to a normal game?

So I'm playing Old World Blues with the Enclave mod and I declared war on the NCR before the event chain annexed everything but Baja (Planned on making the NCR into Mexico) and then that blocked half the focus tree because I have to annex all of the NCR in order to finish my focus tree. I'm about five years in and I really don't want to have to restart.

You can do it by following these steps:

Step 1, go to:

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV

Once there locate the file settings.txt and open it. Then look for a row starting with 'save_as_binary' and make sure it looks like this:

save_as_binary=no

Step 1b, If it was set to yes before then you need to load up the save first and then exit it so it is saved again but this time not binary (if it was set to no then skip this step).

EDIT: Before doing step 2 make a backup copy of your save file just incase something goes wrong.

Step 2, then go to:

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\save games

And locate your save file there. Open that file with a text editor like Sublime Text and locate the row looking like:

ironman="<savegamename>.hoi4"

And delete that row of text and then save the file.

Step 3, load up that save in game and it should now be a normal save instead of ironman.

I did this to try to fix a game ruining glitch that Paradox has been ignoring despite my alerting them forever ago, and then reversed the instructions to successfully turn it back into an iron-man but it failed the check for cheats and modified save game file for achievements. Is there a way to get around this?

By the way, just wanted to add, for step 1 make sure the game is not on. Then continue. Also for Step 2, there is another iron-man line that you have to change from a 1 to a 0.

Are you surprised that you editing an ironman savefile would show up and be flagged as edited savefile in game?
