The irony is, that Germany was historically the more technological advanced nation in many aspects, except for Radar, sonar and nuclear technology, but that they were also a lot smarter to addept technology of the countries they conquered. Best examples of this: the Schnorkel technology was taken from the Dutch, while the Brits removed it from the Dutch subs the moment these subs docked in British ports; and the Panther tank being based upon the Russian T-34.
The main reason Germany lost the war, was because the demolition of their industry by the continuing allied bombing - although that industry still worked hard enough to supply the Wehrmacht with Panthers produced 3 days before the Ardenne offensive - the similar to all major transport area's and the battle of attrition they had to fight in Russia. And especially the winter and the constant partizan attacks.
It's exactly those three things - bombing industry, bombing infrastructure and high attrition - the game doesn't have. Therefore, the AI Germany is able to keep its production at high levels, conquering a large part of Russia, big enough to feed that industry and crank out more units as you can imagine; while at the same time, Russia gets it's industrial capacity reduced as it never moved its industry beyond the Ural; something it did historically.
In all games I played since I had MtG, I've seen Germany conquering Russia sooner (1946) or later (1948), usually not long after that followed by Japan killing off all colonial possessions in the East.
It would be nice to see Germany starting to suffer from bombing raids somewhere near the end of 1942, as it historically began as well.
Question is, how to program that?
Thorin :)
Just neuter them by holding France with CAS. It's not very difficult to beat Germany, especially as the USA In single player. Personally I've never made it to 43 before, because we've usually crushed germany long before then.
Germany did not lose the war by being bomb...the germans lost the war at the soviet front... the soviet air force shot down 77.000 superior technological wunderwaffes while the brits and the americans only got to shot down 23.000....Not only that the KV tanks and T-34 tanks were also better than german tanks, the soviets were using steelblibs for their engineers and assault troops the germans never had this luck, the first army in the world to use semi-automatic rifles was the red army, they enter service in 1938, the nazis had to wait to 1943 to get the gewher 43. The soviet locomotives were also better than those of the germans, the Felix Dzerzhinsky 20 in 1941 was the most powerful locomotive in continental Europe and you say this???? LOL...
Here you have the evaluation of the bombing campaign and its % of disruption of production
https://ww2-weapons.com/german-arms-production/
For the record, you should reread my post.
Bombing the Axis industrial area's and the infrastructure certainly did have a major role into the defeat of Germany.
After the bombing raid at the bear ball plants in Schweinfurt, the German industry took a bit hit that took them several months to overcome. Several months in which vehicles couldn't be replaced; which certainly had its effect at the frontline as well.
Similar with the raids at the oil fields and production area at Ploetsi, Rumania. After those got bombed, Germany suffered a major drop in all kinds of fuel for their industry and vehicles. A fuel drop they couldn't overcome, not even with the use of synthetic fuels. VERY unlike the game presents us.
As for your so called "wunderwaffes" (correct spelling would be "Wunder Waffen"), the Germans never used the V1 and V2 at the East front. They were weapons of terror and the only time they flew at the Eastern part of Germany, was when they left the test base at Peenemünde.
If you are refrerring to aircraft, the main reason so meany were shot down at the Eastern Front is simple:
1) It was the largest front in Europe, so most of Germany's divisions, fighter-, bomber- and attackplane squadrons were fighting there
2) Russia used low to mid altitude planes, while Germany used mid to high altitude planes. The only way to stop Russian planes harrasing the German troops, was for German pilots to meet the Russian pilots at an altitude that didn't favour the German planes. Kinda like having a boxing match with one opponent having 50Kg of concrete tied to his leg.
3) If the strategic bombing was of no use, why tried Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia so hard ot devellop a multi-engine bomber? The only one who more or less succeeded was Russia, after reverse engeneering several American B-29 bombers and coppying the design.
4) Somewhere in 1944 Stalin ordered his general staff to devellop plans to invade Western Europe the moment Germany was defeated. Three things made him reconsider: A) The devastation done by the Western Allies bombers to German cities and infrastructure, combined with B) the knowledge that a B-29 was able to get very far into Russia without being stopped by Russian planes (remember, Russia didn't have fighters suitable for high altitude) and C) Realizing the Brits had a bomb able to destroy dams (they did it with an attack at Ruhr-dams) as well as a bomb large enough to destroy entire tunnels; while the USA had a weapon powerful enough to blast a Russian city to smithereens with just a single bomb. An occurance about the latter he got in August, 1945....
As for the tanks: The T-34 and KV-1 were indeed superior to early war German tanks. The Panther is obviously based upon the T-34 and the Tiger and Königs Tiger were obviously based to counter the KV and later IS tanks.
The Panther, Tiger and Königs Tiger (and all the tankhunters based upon these models) were on par with the Russian tanks at the end of the war. Imagine what they'd been if they hadn't suffered from engine and transmission problems......
Yet, in 1941, the Germans use tanks using a (t) designation. That (t) stood for Tsjechoslowakei (and I hope I got the spelling right) because those two tank types (the t35 and t38) were on par or better as the tanks; meaning early Pz-III and Pz-IV's and top Pz-II's; Germany had at the time. Idea's from those tanks were later used in better Pz-III and -IV types.
As for your comment about the G43; that weapon was actually an improved version of the G-41; which in turn was a Geman copy of the Russian STV. However, the US Army already deployed the M1 Garand in 1936. So the Russians weren't the first to use automatic rifles in their army.
As for other developments: Germany were the first to use infra red sights at their Panther Tanks, they were the first to have balistic missiles - despite Russia being the first using multiple missile launchers and Germany copying that idea with their Nebelwerfer and Wulframen; they were the first to develop an assault rifle - the very infamous StG42 and very famous StG44; the latter being the base of the AK-47 - they were the first to develop a jet-bomber (the Arado Blitz) and their jet fighter was so sophisticated it was by far better as the Venom, Meteor and P-80. The very first design having the same effect in aircraft history was the MiG-15. Germany was even working at the very first ejector seat for their Dornier Pfeil aircraft. A design they stole from Fokker Aircraft Industries, who was working at that idea to safe a pilot's life if he had to jump from a D-23 fighterplane, which was using a push-pull configuration.
My previous post wasn't meant as a history lesson, but to compare real life with the game. And obviously shows that the game lacks some features that happened in real life. Most notably the effect of the continued allied bombing at the German industry and infrastructure. You can bring up numbers showing that Germany produced more and more each year, however, those figures only show machines; not resources. A lot of German tanks used steel wheels, instead of rubber clad ones for their tanks because rubber became very scarce. A lot of German machines couldn't be used at full potential because they ran out of fuel. The armoured troops fighitng in the Ardenne offensive had empty drums attached to their vehicles, so they could use the ALLIED!! supplies for their own advance.
There's nothing like that in HoI4, no matter how good the game is. And it's because of that, Germany is able to win so often; simply because the moment it got a large part of Europe under its control, it's also able to "harvest" enough resources to keep supplying that industry.
Thorin :)
T-34 was a decent mass producable tank, it wasn't good, it just wasn't bad and easy to produce on mass..... (and most of them where assamble rather hastily with bad welding joints, making them ez kills for PaK crews, nevermind that a Panther and even retrofitted Pz4's could still blow anything up to the 84 variant up too 2km)....
And the KV was ♥♥♥♥, the only reason the Wehrmacht had trouble with them was because at the outset of the war, they literally only had 1 field gun type capable of dealing with it as they never expected to face such heavy armor. And remember how fast they still where advancing despite facing that ? xD O yes I can see the absolute superiority!
Here's a fun fact for you, more German tanks of Pz4 or higher quality where abandoned and scuttled then they where destroyed by the Russians. Especially Tigers.
Next thing you know you're going to tell me about the briljant strategy of losing close to 1 million men in 3 weeks of combat and how that was all testiment to superior Soviet strategy.
O god if it wasn't for Zukhov and the conditions the Germans where subjected too (and I don't even mean the winter, I mean the 1 way railroad lines to over 200km+ to supply entire armies, that's btw why they didn't have winter cloths, not because they didn't have them, it's because there was barely enough railroad to supply basic food and ammunition and fuel) the Russians would have been so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ xD
Anyhow, try supply early arms to Germany's enemies, make them work for that early expansion so they drop in manpower.
Just no, the Germans including Hilter thought they would have Moscow, and thus proper shelter for winter. They always expected the war to last considerably longer, they just expected at that point that most of the heavy organized resistance would collapse (since Moscow was also a major Railroad hub and taking it would effectively have meant the Red Army could no longer concentrate it's forces). This is also what the actual battleplans state. In fact the German army near Leningrad faired somewhat better because the infrastructure around the area was better and was actually properly supplied for large part with Winter equipement.
Hell the Germans even send observers and advisors to Finland during the Winter war exactly for the reason to get a better idea what it might take to need to fight in such conditions.
The Germans had plenty of Winter Clothing, back in Poland even, not even Germany, because infrastructure in Poland was sufficient, the problem was getting it from there to the actual front.
Maybe read actual history books which have copies of reports and maps instead of the actual time of watching bad History channel documentaries with computer generated maps with animations which completely over simplify stuff because they are condensing a lot of information into short segments. Which then play to peoples biases by making stupid statements like "Hitler thought the war would be over before Winter..."
German Blitzkrieg was only possible due to proper logistics, yet you are now going to boldly proclaim the Germans absolutely sucked at logistics ? xD O wait even better, your basically boldly claiming that Hitler decided which gear soldiers needed and got, which is hilarious that you think somebody has time to micro manage to that detail, especially when we are talking about the Germans who had the highest amount of operational freedom until like 43' was it when there was a attempt made on his life ?.....
You fell for a myth which is on par with Polish Cavalry charging tanks with Sabers..... No sorry this is case of front line commanders yelling "gives us more fuel, we can make it to Moscow before winter" on a limited infrastructure that couldn't do both, not Hitler's insanity, that came later.
Rofl why the hell do you think I mentioned Zukhov ? xD
Better recheck your revisionist history Ivan. Without the combined pressure of the Allied air forces the Germans would easily have swept the Soviets from the skies. In fact, they pretty much did that anyway.
The Germans only produced a total of around 94,000 planes just before and during WW2. And you want to claim the Soviets shot down 77,000 of them? lol Enough with the lies. The Russians only produced about 22,000 total fighters while the Germans only produced around 57,000. And you're claiming the Russians scored a more than 1:1 kill ratio? Impossible when you already know one of the top German aces of the war shot down around 400 Russian planes alone.
One of Russia's best fighters was in fact the U.S. made P-39 Airacobra - which is hilarious when you really think about it.

The fact is, without American planes, trucks and trains, the Russians would have had a very difficult time focusing on building just ground attack planes, TD's and tanks, as they did and probably would have been encircled by the Germans. The Russian offensives would have been non-existent without American vehicles. They would have been slow, encircled and eventually enslaved.
