What's the point of NATO icons

It’s probably one of the best ways to easily identify different unit types at a glance. Especially if you are familiar with the symbols. Also, it’s kind of the “official” and most universal way of marking units.

Lots of people think that’s the only “real” or “hardcore” way to play.

NATO Counters are the only counters that should be used for a real WW2 game.
Personally, with NATO icons I have a way easier way telling apart different tank or artillery variants.

I don't mind them but I don't get why some people have an elitist attitude about them. There's nothing wrong with using the Paradox green symbols.

Just because onbe person feels that way doesn't mean everyone does.

Most of us who use NATO counters just prefer the style or its easier for us to differentiate between different units using them (because many of us understand the NATO counters better).

If you don't like 'em, don't use 'em.

Chill Drogo. I didn’t attack you. I also never said I didn’t like counters. I also never said that everyone who uses them feels that way.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

HOI4 doesn't have NATO symbols like Hoi3 - they're a hybrid of sorts. There's not indication of unit level like army, army group, etc. as in Hoi3.
