Tencent investment in Paradox Interactive???
"Paradox Interactive - 5 percent: When Swedish grand strategy publisher Paradox first went public in 2016, Tencent swooped in to buy 5 percent for $21 million. Part of the sale was motivated because Steven Ma, the head of publishing at Tencent Games, is a big fan of Hearts of Iron 2."

How do people feel about this? I dont want to be encouraging any Chinese companies in a country that doesnt believe in the freedom of speech and personal liberty. I am thinking this might have to end my involvement with Paradox games. Has anyone else seen this and what do they feel about it?

Remember that HoI is banned in China because of their historical depiction of the map. Tencent is pretty gross, though they're not a majority shareholder and obviously they haven't had much influence in how Paradox operates.

Since I became aware of who they are and how far their reach goes ... Lets just say it's not helped change my mind about not buying HoI4 DLC.

Thankfully, it just so happens that nothing I own had their grubby hands anywhere near it at the time of development / launch. I havent bought a game for over 2 years now, but if that was to change i'd have to keep an eye out before I indrectly find myself giving money to those wankers.

Can you keep the political BS and the virtue signalling out of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ video games please?

Also, LOL@"free Hong Kong", as if that city had ever been free. Almost as hypocritical as people badmouthing the HKPF when they if at all have been exceedingly soft for the degree of violence they'r efacing from the mob, even by the standards of western countries. Lest we remember, last time there was a riot of this scale in Hong Kong, the British openly authorized (and subsequently engaged in) outright use of lethal force to disperse the crowds.

Maybe i misunderstood you. But did you just wrote that the police brutality is ok because others did it in the past already?

No, I'm saing that screaming "police brutality" is wildly misplaced here and that if at all the HKPFs conduct has so far gone above and beyond in terms of showing restraint and patience. FFS, the Yellow Vests over in France aren't as violent as the HK rioters, and yet French cops already shot like a dozen people. Some of the ♥♥♥♥ the HK rioters pulled, most cops in Europe or the US would light you the ♥♥♥♥ up for, and no court would rule it unjustified.

I'm also ill-inclined to show much sympathy for people who make statements about wanting "freedom" and "democracy" while they try to murder cops and commit arson and looting, while their ideas of "freedom" and "democracy" include mobbing and beating up people for speaking the wrong language or in any way criticizing or just refusing the support them. The entire HK protest "movement" has been a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in every way, and should only be used as a straight example of what NOT to do to create an actually working protest movement.

Most of the cell phone parts are made in china. Are you going to stop using cell phones?

I wouldn't be surprised if they raise it to 10% or more.

The CCP would be proud of you spouting their propaganda points. Not one thing you stated is fact.

No more money from me. Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas as the old saying goes.

5% is significant, but I don't think enough to influence game design or content.
Rachid Oct 17, 2019 @ 5:57pm
Please, stop politicizing video games, one thing is completely different from another.
If you live in a country where you have free of speech, great, but this is not the place to debate about these things, and really, it's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, it's just a question of investiments, people do that all the time in the video games area, but this is bothering you just because there are chinese people involved, great.
