Why am I getting attrition?
Hi all. I have set up a training Army under a low-level general. I have set my divisions (the ones that are in production and awaiting equipment and basic training) to go straight to my training army when they are produced.
I have garrisoned the training army near Berlin.
Only 3 divisions belonging to the training army have been deployed so far but they are already suffering from 5% attrition. There are no other forces in that sector.
Why am I getting attrition?
Its a new game and i am still within January 1936

I believe training gives attrition to your troops

Training, IMO, should have equipment and sometimes even personnel attrition, but not experience attrition. Which, I think it has the latter, which makes no sense. The newbs wash out, not the veterans. Experience should only rise or remain static (if higher than regular), not go down with training.

Hope the devs fix this.

Training results in some attrition. Gotta provide ammo and equipment for your men to train with.

As mentioned, training results in a little bit of attrition. If you want to get around this, a good policy is to give any division with valuable or fragile equipment (tanks, lots of artillery, half-tracks) a maintenance company. In wartime, attrition losses can be pretty huge and maintenance companies are comparatively cheap, so it's not a bad idea generally.

In HoI4 there is attrition, but only for equipment - NO attrition for men (which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥), So when you are excercising or moving through rough terrain, you take ONLY equipment attrition - it doesn't influence experience level of your unit (it is loosing only weapons and tanks, but not men, so exp level stays the same). My guess is that AI would kill itself if there would be attrition for manpower as well.

For 150 political power points you can apoint a staff officer in your country with a logistics trait that give a -8 to attrition. Then you can train without lose equipment. Combat, moving or standing in bad terrain and/or with bad weather give attrition anyway so is a very good choice. I lost tens of tousands of ligth tanks from attrition invading the Soviet Union as Japan, up to three times more than from combat itself in the northern army front despite having country logistic staff officer, logistic and maintenance support companies in every division. Mud season is that bad.
