Is there a way to recall Volunteers. I've seen the AI do it
But I can't find a way to do it, there must be a hot key or something. The units I sent can no longer fight, in the beginning they did well but as Japan steped up there troops and sent more tanks and mech, my troops are way under supported now, and china is going to loose.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: Volunteers stay until one of the following happens.

A) The war they participate in ends.

B) The nation that sent them, in this case you, becomes involved in a war (declares war, joins a war or is declared upon).

C) They die in battle or by attrition (pretty much never happens).

I've never seen one die, but it looks like that may happen, this time! I made a mistake in sending the units I did, I overlooked, they weren't the same as the last time I sent them.

There is one other way. You can disband them to recover the manpower and most of the equipment. You could then train a fresh replacement using those resources but of course this will take time and they will not have experience. If you are certain they are about to get overrun and die or you know they will be stuck for years in a war you have no interest in then it is worth considering.

When I changed factions, they were recalled to the homeland
