Does anybody have a strategy for using Australia (together for victory)?
I'm trying to stay part of the Commonwealth, I don't want to break away from the Brits. But it seems virtually impossible to do anything of significance. By the time Japan joins the war, they immediately steamroll the region and destroy anything I've got operating outside of the mainland. Does anybody have a strategy for using Australia or are they simply hopless?

Yeah they're pretty hopeless in my game too. I had better luck with India though! The huge MP is really awesome

problem is manpower. you will never get enough to be a threat to majors.
even if u leave the commonwealth you will still not be able to do much because u just wont have enough mp to bring an effective fighting force onto the allied lines.
i went fascist, took new zealand, indonesia, malaysia, siam, yemen, oman , saudi arabia. then the only country left that you can attack thats wont get u entangled vs the other factions is portugal.
around this time i had 170+ factories, a fleet with 4 carriers, a couple of battleships and destroyers numbering around 70+.
soviets lost versus germany and japan but the allies have invaded spain and france are holding their own. you wont be able to even take either factions since australia only has like 550k mp at extensive conscription. i can win naval battle with japan but i will never be able to take him out since he has over 200+ divisions on mainland just idling around....
the only commonwealth minor that is playable to do a big impact is india. canada might come in second, but it takes too long to get enough factories to expand your army, and your mp is limited but still slightly better than australia. on the other hand its pretty easy to get pretty high up in factories in australia but no mp lol. basically australia will just be the supply of arms and equipment producer for the allies or whatever faction its in.

couldn't you puppet some nation with decent manpower and feed off them?

To prevent japan from steam-rolling you, make sure you have garrison divisions at all the ports in papua new guinea, have some coastal forts pre-built there.
Basically japan run's on a script for it's naval invasion, stop the script at the start, you won't have any problems.

Be supportive. Make divisions with lots of artillery, anti tank, and anti air and place them on your allies' fronts without a battleplan, just a frontline. They'll support attacks happening near them and the soft attack will really help your allies attacking positions. For them steamrolling you, I'd say garrisons, try to get the US in ASAP to help in the pacific, and try to protect yourself.

you have to build the ♥♥♥♥ out of your economy first, if ya don't your screwed, next will be getting free trade, limited conscription and early mobalization, then after that you want to do the construction focus straight off the bat as they are a major help. Build some planes and do not build divisions at all yet, save that later. once you have 200 planes place them in northern territory and DO NOT go to europe or africa, i know it's an idea but do not, get America to help you as they are much more closer and effective.

Light to medium tanks only
Artillery and anti-tank guns are a must
support equipment is also a must
get fighter II's before 1940 is a MUST (go down the focus tree for expant the RAAF, make sure you have researched the CAC Boomergang then with the fighter focus that allows 50-100% off if ahead of time get the CAC Mustang as it's a god sent in early game if Japan goes nuts or anything.

DO NOT leave the Allies, big mistake unless you are going something else.

Manpower can be a pain so be careful about it
