When you're trying to clandestinely overthrow your government, it's a bit harder to hide a bunch of tanks and 'planes (EDIT) than some rifles .... ;p
You could invite them to your faction afterwards or try to lend-lease them (forgot if it's possible tbh)
Generally speaking most coups depend on their popularity, and they TAKE divisions FROM the original country.
For the sake of example let's say you stage a coup in Texas (for the US) depending on it's support it will increase in size (and army aswell)
And the bigger the area the more the cored manpower + industry meaning they'll probably make a large army anyway (if they didn't get enough from their main nation that was coup'd)
This example would be best understood in MP or by using TAG in console before and after the coup on the main country.
