I'll admit I've mostly been playing mods on this game lately, but when did they add this to the soviets? +25% organization -3% doctrine research time. that's pretty cool, kinda defeats the whole purpose of the soviets being vulnerable during the great purge but cool.

To my knowledge it has always existed. I wouldnt know for sure as I always completed Lessons of War as soon as possible but lets face it, the Soviets NEED that. If they didnt have that they would be steamrolled without any resistance against the Germans.

but the thing is I've steam rolled them many times before during the great purge and I never saw that modifier.

The great purge didn't affect much the Soviet army during WWII, they had one of the best, if not the best, military leadership of the war.

Only 3-4% of miltary leadership was purged of which 30% were rehabiliated, purge is a biig myth.
The real reason behind incompetent military leadership at smaller level was massive expansion of red army, it was 2.5 times larger in 1941 than what was it during M-R pact.

This was better modelled in HOI 3 imo with "officer ratio" thing, the great purge hurting the army is a big fat myth, purge helped the rise of many competent and great generals while removing any potential july 44 esque plot in USSR and doing away with many Vlassov, it was a net positive not negative.

The purge modifier is an attempt to stop the player from just crashing through the game with no-one to stop them

The great purge basicly killed any expierenced officer and trainer.
During the Soviet Finish war the Soviets barley had enough officers to lead their men, and those were rookies.

On topic though, I wasn't aware of that modifier either. I agree that it's needed. Moving industry east isn't enough to reverse an early German offensive that pushes close to Moscow. Manpower is the other dynamic that is supposed to give the USSR a chance at pushing Germany back from the cusp of Moscow, and it never seems to be a factor.

strange even in multiplayer game i never had a hard time stoping early german rush...yes i lose like 7million guys for 1millions german but they barely take any land...
try to do multy layer frontline so the rush and encirclement/paratrooper tactic doesnt work since if they cant pierce your line deeplythey have to push you the old fashionned way and lose massiv amount of stuff to attrition.

IF I remember my history correctly, the 'Great Patriotic War' effect can only happen when somebody invades the USSR ! ; the Soviets knocking over other countries DOES NOT trigger the GPW,
it is a case of "them Bozo's" being idiots enough to DARE messing with Russia (and you DON'T want to mess with Mother Russia, 'cuz now WE gonna GET you !!!) .
