Stuck on updating history

Game worked fine yesterday, there wasn't any update but now for some reason when i go start a new game i just get stuck on "Updating History..." forever.

I verified the files twice, removed all mods and have now even fully reinstalled the game and still it keeps getting stuck on "Updating History..." i have no idea what to do

Even MP doesn't work, when i join my friend and click on any country it just freezes the game same way Updating History does.

AMD f*cked up, new driver breaks the game . All amd GPU owners revert to any previous driver to fix it, here's the list http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

I tried downloading the 17.7.1 drivers, but it usually cuts off the dowload at 25% and says "failed - network error"

I'm not sure how we could help you with that. I'd just try it again and if the problem persists write to AMD.

I just updated to 17.8.1 and it's still broken for me.

I reverted to 17.7.1, probably the best option as of now

Because it's not AMD's issue to be honest. HOI4 is pretty much the only game to have an issue like this, even all the other PDX games work fine with whatever drivers you care to use. There's obviously something screwy specifically in HOI4 that is causing this.

it happened again, i tweeted to hoi, paradox, and amd. the new amd driver has the same problem.
