Historically it was never very efficient anyways

In HOI3 the Developers made Air Supply easy. I dont understand why HOI4 Developers failed to do so.

they "improved" the game because it did give the player an unfair advantage apparently since the AI couldn't use it.

So will it be patch or DLC?

a) regarding whether it will be part of the patch or the DLC or in it at all - no clue, next dev blog maybe.
b) Air supply was never a thing that worked. Not on the scale we're talking about here, an encircled battalion - yes - a few divisions (Stalingrad) - no. Transporting trucks or tanks was near impossible. Ranges of transport planes weren't so great and carrying capacity was meagre. If they include it it should be a short term positive effect - but it shouldn't be possible to maintain large divisions just with a few planes.

I think there is a misconception of how acurate air drops were in ww2, and how much manpower(and trucks) needed just to gather up all the supplies, which makes those men(and trucks) vulnerable. You can forget about supplying artillery, the amount of ordnance they use and it's weight makes it comical to even imply as a possibility.

+ if you have air superiority in a sector of the world and you have a airfield, i think it is so so so easy to land there and give the supplies and take off again.

The proof is germany after ww2 where russia was saying you dont pass anymore and allies put so many planes in the sky to give west germany supplies.

KEEP THE IN MIND.
If your referring to the berlin airlift it wasnt as easy and as straight forward as your implying.

The Berlin airlift planes were not in constand threat of being shot down.

The German..Was it 9th army? Was airsupplied for a little bit but every time they lost planes and could never get enough to the troops. That is the largest airlift I believe of the war.

Others happened successfully sure. But never on that scale and only to a small number of troops.
I would be fine with having an airfield and having to use transport planes like convoys to support cut off troops. I don't see a point to add the ability to supply divisions forever just on a random chunk of land.

this is another exemple on how you can supplies your units that not in the game.
It's very easy to simply construct a Harbour though...
If they did it, the only way it would be somewhat balanced is only allowing manpower, guns, and support equip to be dropped. Like a paradrop wtih a chance to lose some if encircled. The air game map is too wide of regions to do this in the current state I'd think.

From what I understand that's not possible in HoI4 and will never be, because that wasn't really a thing during WW2 and therefore the devs won't implement this. If you disagree and have good sources I'd recommend you to make a thread about it in the HoI4 suggestions subforum on Paradoxplaza. (There might already be a thread about this there though; in this case just add your input there.)
