The real best nation is mongolia due to its geopolitical and economic position. Mongola has some of the greatest influence in the eastern sphere and can produce large amounts of cavalry, which is far better than infantry.

Germany and Japan would be the funest to start with. They are aggressive and set up for early warring. Most other nations you will have to be patient and can be boring for a new player.

The 7 majors are basically all fun to play except for the United States. Unless you're content with fighting South America and Canada, and being exposed to naval invasion on all sides by 2 of the greatest naval powers of the time (♥♥♥ and UK).

Well the UK was going to be my first choice cause I'm from the UK anyways, but I'll choose Germany for my 2nd game.

I've done so as China, Japan, USA, Germany, UK and Soviet Union. Choose one. Mind you, I never have the patience to fully annex the whole world, but I typically have 50%+ of the world as my domain: there's no military threat to my power.

I wouldn't recommend China simply because if you don't play as Mao, you are in for a rough ride. I managed to wax his ass after he helped me with the Japanese but that was no easy task. USA is easy since they don't get involved until late and you have time to figure things out.

The Soviet Union, in my opinion is also fairly straight forward but there is a lot to manage. France isn't difficult, just bunker up, build the full magniot line and push, that's what I did and railed Germany. Your milage may vary obviously but they are fairly stable if you prepare for what you know is going to happen.

Overall, I'd say go with the USA, you can play at your own pace, and even wipe out Mexico as a little war on the side so you can get the hang of things. They aren't hard to eliminate and you can easily take all of South America.
