I'm playing the American version, and I have no mods on, so why is his face darkened? It was there before.

I'm also playing the American version with no mods and his face is 100% there for me.

Verify game cache or reinstall.

Folks, if you have no intention of helping OP just don't post here. (I deleted a couple of off-topic posts.)

Make sure that the "Historical German Portraits" DLC is checked in the launcher's DLC tab. If you don't see that DLC there try this: Close Steam, delete the `dlc_signature' file in Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\ and then restart Steam. After this the DLCs should reappear in the launcher and you should make sure that the above mentioned DLC is checked (otherwise Hitler is blacked out).

You mean that you see that DLC in the launcher, have activated it there and it still doesn't work as it should? If so that would be odd, but sure you could try a clean reinstallation (→ point 1 in the "Related to game crashes (having DLC or not) and checksum errors" sticky thread).

Weird. In the past there were threads about that problem, but in those cases people usually didn't check that DLC in the launcher or didn't see any DLCs there to begin with.

Maybe a clean reinstallation does the trick, if not my recommendation would be to ask Paradox' support[www.paradoxplaza.com] for help. Especially if you have to go down that route I'd like to hear how you were able to fix that problem afterwards.
