Is the Soviet Union very beginner-friendly?
Anyway, I'm STILL learning and it's been two weeks, which pisses me off since I made a discussion once and everyone said within a day they were masters. The one area I'm struggling on is warfare, and I'd say I'm progressing well on land warfare.

Anyway, I really want to play as the Soviet Union because whenever I play a game involving countries I have to play as the Russians at some point for whatever reason. Is it good for beginners? I heard Nazi Germany was good but I find it to be overrated and not that fun.

Its neat to read that you have to play as Russians in every game. I'm like that with Germans. I have 50 hours and I'm still not 100% but I'm starting to win some major battles, though. I like quill18. He seems to know how to play the game but I catch mistakes he makes like not seeing when he's being invaded. He'll scroll right over it and not notice. Nice to watch an average person with different strengths and weaknesses then me play. Anyway, welcome to the game. I hope you enjoy it.
Quill18 is notoriously bad for being (hopefully willfully) ignorant of obvious things. Sometimes in EU4 there will be an army sieging down provinces that he doesn't even notice despite it being on screen.

Simple solution to coastal invasions is to assign some basic 2x2 infantry divisions to guard ports with the Garrison Area battle plan.

I am! Bought it in April and this has been going for awhile. I watched the entirety of Bridger's USSR playthrough and it seems like the Soviets are fun and easy. I am a veteran EU4 player, and if you are not one as well the Russian states are all fun but the problem is that you need to spend centuries colonizing Siberia which sucks imo. Fortunately in HOI4 the Russians had long done that...

I also plan on buying Victoria II but it sounds harder than both HOI4 and EUIV (Now that I've been in HOI for a little bit I think it's probably easier than EUIV). I own CK2 but never got around to learning it. I just hate Paradox's DLC plan nowadays. I think the expansions should be released say, annually instead of every few months and they should not go over $10 to $15.

I have always seem to struggle with the USSR.

I have been able to take out USSR, Germany and Italy as Japan!!!! An incredible feat! but it took me ages AGES to master the soviets.

Anyway usually as the USSR I go Purge first then make my way down to Anti-Fasicst diplomacy. The later you wait to fight Germany, the stronger and tougher they'll be. SE Asia is always a walk in the park. After the TFV and oak update Japan AI kind sucks at taking China out. The divisons already at Sinkiang to the Far East coast are enough to handle that front while you deal with Germany.

Again, USSR is my weaker nation. My best are as follows: Japan, US, Aussie, Poland.
I don't count Italy and Germany cause it's basically easy mode. I used to be good with PRC, Hungary and Peru but Oak kinda destroyed minors. I can still manage to survive the japanese onslaught as PRC but before Oak I could do so much more.

Mexico is pretty strong if you go for expanse early. Then again that's true for a lot of South American Countries.

As far as Vic 2 goes. I love LOVE that game. The only reason I have the least amount of time in it compared to HOI and EU is that I got spoiled on MP. I had a vic 2 group and we had huge HUGE mp games.

With HOI I play with one other person every now and again, mainly by myself. If I ever experience a huge game I will probably suffer the same fate as with Vic2.

Vic2 is pretty damn hard....trial and error doesn't even cut it. Best thing to do is pick a country and use them till you do well....every country acts a little different.

Hope this helps somewhat!!!

Just my two cents here...

The Soviet Union is easy to start with, but if you ignore certain issues, you will quickly be overwhelmed.

Firstly, your military is in a rather pathetic state upon starting. Guns are in dire need, so you will have to focus on simple infantry equipment rather than the more colourful aircraft, tanks, trucks, etc.

Secondly, you must now make a choice: play the TRUE hard Soviet Union, or play a normal game. If you choose to enter hardmode, you can rush down the PCDI tree and start annexing your neighbours. Wonderful. But this wonder will not last. Civil war will break out, you will be forced to make a choice over your leader, and this will leave you reeling for a time. Precious time lost preparing for your duel with the Fascist menace.

If you play a normal game, you MUST complete the Great Purge. This will hurt you if you plan on invading and annexing early, yet it is mandatory for the long run.

Finally, your true challenge: Dealing with the Fascist menace to the East. Your options are limited: Strike a deal, wait to be invaded, or strike first. Each option has its merits, but if you want to survive you will need to FOCUS. Build up fortifications, build your military, try and build up your airforce... these are all options, yet you have limited time. Choose your actions wisely, and you will be fine.

All in all, there are definite challenges, yet they are not unable to be overcome.

I started a HOI4 game as Italy and started WWII in April 1937 when UK-supported Albania refused to join the Italian empire. I decided to invade France first since they kept occupying my land, and me and Germany have not lost one battle and by 1938 I should have Paris and can then attack Albania while Germany destroys Britain, who had several victories against the UK when they tried to invade Holstein.

If you want an easy country that definitely won't overwhelm you, I'd say go for Italy (which Paradox designed for new players). However, your major problem is going to be that it will be near impossible to win World War II. Without a human behind Germany, the Eastern Front will go exactly like it did in real life and you can do nothing about it as Italy.
I've seen Germany win against the USSR plenty of times. You can always send a few armies out to help them if they're having trouble.

They capitulated on November 29, 1937. I left some troops in occupied France in case Britain came in, but sent most of my troops to Albania.
