There's a bunch of old threads that discuss this in great detail, but the short version is:
Wait until the tide pulses
Fly your ship at the nav beacon you left behind; you have about 60 seconds to hit it & get teleported.
FWIW, I built a bunch of the S-sized Condensate carrying ships, loaded them in to an XL ship & flew the XL ship through, then ordered all the S ships to collect the drops & then dock back to the XL & flew it out after the next tide. That one time gathering has been fueling all of Avarice ever since.
That is such a genius move.
I've decided to start a new game because I want to better prepare myself before this quest to do it right, and I'll pinch this advice. A carrier was out of the question for me, I was still locked financially to medium sized ships, but a carrier is genius!
Having to wait for an hour to get into that region, for 1 load was a lot of waiting around and you will have just saved me a lot of time.
Thank you! I wondered where I was going wrong.
This will certainly make my next attempt a bit more easy! Thanks again!
If you're going for some longer prep, then I have some further suggestions:
During earlier quests, you needed to steal an experimental "Raven" S-class ship from the Teladi MINistry of Finance. If you filter your map, you should see more of these model of ships flying around. Every single one of those is a disguised MIN ship with an Advanced chassis mod installed. If you can convince the pilots to bail out of some of those ships, you can claim the abandoned ship, dock it at a wharf & uninstall the Advanced chassis mod, then re-use the components from that mod on your carrier to give it 100% Hazardous Environment Protection, which will allow you to fully ignore the effects of the Avarice Tide (not that you truly need it, as the shields on a carrier will absolutely survive, but it's nice to not have the AI attempt to auto-dock your ship every hour).
Furthermore, you can construct a "trade" station in Avarice (or nearby) with tons of Condensate storage to house all of your collection. If you load up 20+ Repair Drones in to the station, you can even ignore installing a Protectyon shield for several tides before you start to see lasting damage. If you assign some condensate-carrying ships as traders for the station, then they'll automatically roam around the whole Avarice sector (SLOWLY!) selling off your entire collection of Protectyon for you. Capture some more Ravens & you'll even have the mod-components to give all of them 100% Hazard protection so that they won't need to waste time auto-docking.
