Can not select Marines to board

I am attempting to board a heavily damaged K but when I bring up the boarding menu I can not select any Marines to start the process. I am attempting to use Captain Collins fly by method from 2 years ago, has selecting the boarding party options while paused been disabled?

K's can't be captured (without mods).

Well I guess that would explain why things did not go quite as planned xD.
Not a total loss as I think I still learned a bit about the process and my laser tower gauntlet scored me a PE, second Xenon ship that trap has produced.
