Autotrader ?
So I have 3 so called trade ships a M and two S...I put the S types into a fleet with them MIMIC the M trader....I have set the M trade behaivor setting to Fill shortages...I want to set the M trader to advanced auto trade BUT it requires a HOME location and only allows a range of 3 jumps??? does that make my S ships when they MIMIC stay in the same area as well??

Yes. I myself prefer "fill shortages" and then use an activities blacklist on the commander to limit where they can go.

Your two S subordinates will need to have 3 star captains as well to successfully mimic the commander's advance autotrader default behavior. But assuming they are 3 stars, yes they would copy the same home base and range settings from their commander. As I recall, the commander will need to complete at least one trade before the subordinates will begin work.

See I like the Fill Shortages as well..BUT I am seeing that my two S ships are like annoying staying together and doing the SAME runs...I have even tried to fly them across galaxy and they still end up in same spot eventually...why can't they just take off the RANGE for advanced AT???? ALSO it seems the jump range doesn't change for the Advanced AT either even they were 5 stars...I am finding none of the higher skills have ZERO effect for much of anything....sad really

They're probably following good prices, and being S traders they probably don't have enough storage capacity to change things. Have you thought about replacing them with higher-capacity traders? For example, the Vulture Sentinel is a great ship for "fill shortages".

Well I am using the Courier Sentinel has 2352 units..thinks its one of the best S "C" ships there is...

OR are you saying I should not have ANY S chips but go all M or L?

It's a good ship, but remember that every ware occupies a certain volume/unit: while ecells, foodstuffs and medicine are small wares (1-2 m^3/unit), when you get to Refined Metals (14 m^3/unit) and above, they simply can't carry much.

Couriers are good for small wares, for anything larger you should go for M or (in the specific case of "fill shortages") L traders.

Ok I think I will start trading them out..guess Ill have one L as Fleet leader and start replacing my S ships with M ...wondering how many M ships I can get away with without over flooding the markets...
FYI I have set up advanced sats network in ALL sectors..

Another tip is to use a military ship for the fleet commander since it won't be harassed by pirates; if the commander of a trade fleet gets destroyed, it can take a while before you find out and the trade behavior won't pass to the replacement (unless this was changed in some recent update).

Get (capture or buy or build) Vig's Barbarossas... they are the best fast trading destroyers... "highly recommended"

Those can get blown up, by rampaging Xenon. But in that case, it won't mater what type of trader it was. Heron Es are great traders, raking in 2 million an hour each. Boa with mk3 SPL combat engines get about 280k an hour, buffalo can get about 250k an hour. Chthonios (Mineral) (Silicon) can get about 580k an hour, but stations can fill up with ore.

You using the Fill Shortages AT or a different setting?

I use DeadTater on one ship and mimic commander on that ship for every trade ship and have each commander of each fleet with an anchor space of the main system for a faction. I use deadair_scripts to check up on the the performance of traders (showing both total profit and current profit/hour). The fleet commanders are Heron Es, whom I give a basic hull mass and travel boost on terran drives.

Just checked and Barbarossas (terran drives) can get between 120k-560k profit/hour (most getting 250k-300k).
