X4 is actually a well made game with no major problems!
I hate to bring it to all of you, guys, but X4 is a perfectly fine game. You might disagree with this statement, unfortunately, between infinite money glitch (aka government subsidy) and the overwhelming support of casual players Egosoft simply doesn't care about the minority opinion on the containment forum.

inbound nay sayers in 5,4,3,2,1...........................

I enjoyed it for what the game is, it has its flaws, like every game out there. But I didnt sink 1200 hours into the game for nothing. It's a ton of fun.

Looks at this delusional fool here. If X4 AI was anything short of perfect the game would never get 91% review rating.0

No nay sayers here, no, no, no, only white knights and Egosoft fanboys.

This game delivers excellent value, especially for a new player, but it has a very long way to go. I hope they redeem themselves from the Timelines disaster. Until then I'm boycotting this game. They aren't going to call their player base ignorant test subjects and get away with robbery without a fight.

The game is JANK AF, and extremely unintuitive, with mechanics that feel sorta messy and overly complicated, with plenty of mechanics that require a roundabout process for no reason, and could be significantly streamlined. And that's what i love about it. You can't just jump in and play. its like real life, where you have to actually study and learn to become proficient at any job.

They are subsidized from their government and are sitting very pretty from Timelines. It achieved ever goal that was stated. This statement is inaccurate. They were not concerned about player enjoyment, they were concerned about collecting money and having their test subjects work for them for free. They ask this again with their flight mechanics update. They can easily make a lot of money from this or any update they sell as a DLC which will allow them to financially maintain their small team easily. Why do you think they don't listen to the community. They don't have to, they are sitting pretty financially.

Sorta-kinda-not-really and excuse, but X4 launch was an absolute disaster, and the devs have treated their customers as alpha-testers for most of their existence to my understanding. From what I heard, this has been their modus operandi even for previous games. This isn't some unprecedented situation that only came about with the new DLC.
I am also confused. They sold a DLC that was what it said on the tin, which was a mission pack to my understanding, and you're calling that robbery? No, it wasn't what people wanted, I understand that. But that seems like a rather disingenuous way to frame "a product that nobody wanted," which is already a legitimate complaint.

I bought Timelines DLC for full price as soon as it was out without any researching based off of the past experiences I've had with Egosoft's products... Excluding X rebirth, which was sold as an unfinished game before this was common practice on the market. I boycotted them for 10 years over that. Timelines has since been removed from the market and I have not received a refund. I call this robbery when you take money for a product and then include that product into the base.

Now, saying you paid for a product, and feel robbed by the idea of it being incorporated into the base game for free, that is legitimate. That context would have been extremely valuable in your original post.
However, I can't actually find anywhere that says that they are adding the content to base game, nor has the Timelines DLC been removed from the market. I don't own Timelines, do not have access to the Timelines content, and can go to the storepage right now and see the Timelines DLC for sale.
Would you be willing to link a source for either of your claims?

The game has come a long way across many patches and multiple expansions to be as good as it is today. With those updates often came new, and/or re-introduced bugs, and if for example, you were someone unlucky enough to have your 200+ hour save permanently impacted by something it's not so easy to pretend like it's always been smooth sailing.

Certainly, Egosoft deserves recognition for continuously working to make the game better... but it's been frustrating sometimes.

Last I saw this game was on sale and timelines was removed from the market and included into the base game. If this is no longer the case then I'm glad they are cleaning up their act. Regarding the "proof" you want: I don't record every aspect of my life. Especially something insignificant that adds fuel to an argumentative statement months after the fact. You'll have to believe it or not. It's your freedom.

X4 is not perfect, no. I mod the %$#@ out of it. But the framework is what makes it so awesome; mine minerals and gasses, trade wares, explore the universe, fight small and large battles, build ships, build huge stations, walk around ships and stations, faction diplomacy, create fleets, small/medium ship dog fighting, piracy, anti-piracy, tons of missions, and mods galore to tweak it the way you want.

I typically mod any game that allows it as the devs, no matter who they are, never deliver exactly what we want. But EgoSoft devs are a special group. They are committed passionate folks and the X universe is their baby. I thank them for the years of their lives they have spent providing a great sandbox to play in. Still waiting on multiplayer and to land on planets. See, we never get exactly what we want, so enjoy what you have. :)~

This is a great message and I support it, even though I'm personally upset with Egosoft for the Timelines debacle. I'd recommend taking a look at Star Citizen 4.0 to scratch a few of those wants you want from X4 that it just can't deliver at this moment. I'm really looking forward for the Pyro system to release. After they get server meshing issues hammered out it should be a much more enjoyable experience.. That's assuming the devs aren't bored and looking to kill you... err i mean take candy from a baby while you're playing.

I liked timelines though. I read the description of the dlc before buying it, and it was pretty much what I expected. My main complaint was that the battleship was kind of weak even if it makes sense for lore reasons, and they buffed it later on, so that's cool.

As for listening to the community, I can't imagine that's a great idea on the whole. There's some good feedback, but a lot of it can be uh... questionable?

For example; Cats on spaceships - good idea, historically accurate.

Giving xenon AI art ship skins - bad idea, probably inevitable in the future irl though.
