I enjoyed it for what the game is, it has its flaws, like every game out there. But I didnt sink 1200 hours into the game for nothing. It's a ton of fun.
No nay sayers here, no, no, no, only white knights and Egosoft fanboys.
Sorta-kinda-not-really and excuse, but X4 launch was an absolute disaster, and the devs have treated their customers as alpha-testers for most of their existence to my understanding. From what I heard, this has been their modus operandi even for previous games. This isn't some unprecedented situation that only came about with the new DLC.
I am also confused. They sold a DLC that was what it said on the tin, which was a mission pack to my understanding, and you're calling that robbery? No, it wasn't what people wanted, I understand that. But that seems like a rather disingenuous way to frame "a product that nobody wanted," which is already a legitimate complaint.
I bought Timelines DLC for full price as soon as it was out without any researching based off of the past experiences I've had with Egosoft's products... Excluding X rebirth, which was sold as an unfinished game before this was common practice on the market. I boycotted them for 10 years over that. Timelines has since been removed from the market and I have not received a refund. I call this robbery when you take money for a product and then include that product into the base.
Now, saying you paid for a product, and feel robbed by the idea of it being incorporated into the base game for free, that is legitimate. That context would have been extremely valuable in your original post.
However, I can't actually find anywhere that says that they are adding the content to base game, nor has the Timelines DLC been removed from the market. I don't own Timelines, do not have access to the Timelines content, and can go to the storepage right now and see the Timelines DLC for sale.
Would you be willing to link a source for either of your claims?
Certainly, Egosoft deserves recognition for continuously working to make the game better... but it's been frustrating sometimes.
I typically mod any game that allows it as the devs, no matter who they are, never deliver exactly what we want. But EgoSoft devs are a special group. They are committed passionate folks and the X universe is their baby. I thank them for the years of their lives they have spent providing a great sandbox to play in. Still waiting on multiplayer and to land on planets. See, we never get exactly what we want, so enjoy what you have. :)~

As for listening to the community, I can't imagine that's a great idea on the whole. There's some good feedback, but a lot of it can be uh... questionable?
For example; Cats on spaceships - good idea, historically accurate.
Giving xenon AI art ship skins - bad idea, probably inevitable in the future irl though.
