You can put most subscribed at the top and start that way though.
With all mods being broken pre 6.0 it did change what mods can be used. So best bet is to see what works now and what sounds like you will enjoy it. Some pre 6.0 mods still work ie paintjobs but ships and other things may not work. Sorry I am not breaking down a mod list for you.
Only mod that caught my eye is being able to buy pilot seminars instead of grinding missions for them.

It really depends on how you play and what you want but adding new ships is always great in my book.
It finally made having an actual fleet to protect gates next to Xenon sectors a sensible investment.
