When a ship docks, your station sends over cargo drones and the ship sends back cargo drones. Only so many can be used at a time, for a given trade, though. There's only so much space between the ship and the station. Also, there's only so many goods that need to get trucked back and forth.
If you have a lot of piers, you (presumably) will have a lot more trading going on, so there's more of a chance that your drones will be needed in multiple trades going on at the same time. Also, if you use those funky 4-way piers that the Terrans and Boron have which cause the ship to dock much further away, having more cargo drones might help a lot more.
Would it be better if L and XL ships did not actually dock and instead just got near the station in a zone of influence and then just let the drones take over and avoid all that docking nonsense with a ship the size of a small town?
I built 10 large Boron miners. After an order every single one undocked, drove straight into the station, bounced back a bit and then went about their business. Ships that large are just not safe around stations.
Ten is a lot of miners!! How big is this station?
They probably won't all come back at once, either, so there shouldn't be much need for lots of piers.
lmao I've probably gone ott with the miners, but it is a decent station. It's gonna be my best. It doesn't take me long to build a shark, 64 fighters, 8 hydras. I don't wait for an Asgard to be built. The Chimeras take longest, but there is 64 of them. I don't think it's a huge station? I'm planning on making it much bigger. :)
I'm nearly at the stage where I can just print Asgards and fully loaded Sharks. It's exciting!
The profits will be mine!
