What the heck Duke's Buccaneer's story-line?
Ok first off, I've got something like 1200 hours in this game. And I've never even SEEN a "bandannite crystal". Like...EVER. Probably because the idea of crystal mining just seemed lame and I got early money doing missions.

I've got hundreds of unstable crystals in my storage from collecting drops from miners. I didn't even realize asteroids dropped other types of crystals.

This is just getting stupid.

/end rant

isn't that the purple one?

That like the most common one.

Bandannite crystals are found pretty much everywhere. A pain at first, but then I realized they are on both silicon and ore asteroids. Sometimes takes a while to find. They are purple crystals. Apparently they are supposed to be very common, but I was having internal celebrations when I finally found enough.

The most annoying type of crystal is when you see something blinking on an asteroid and when you get close you realize it's the resource probe. And 10 more nearby.

I would guess, based on dialogues, that storyline is one of the possible outcomes of Paranid war? I can't be sure, I don't read guides.

Millions of them in Heretics End. Really easy to spot. Fly to the edge of an asteroid field, get the sun behind you and just wait for a little twinkle lol. It's a lot smaller than a nav beacon, but you should see them easily enough.

the dukes buccaneers is the 2nd possible outcome for the paranid plot.

to find ban danna ite you basically go into any random asteroid field, keep your eyes peeled and watch if anything is blinking in that field.

if you see something blinking (that is not a probe) you head straight towards it, it will most likely be a crystal that is attached to an asteroid (any asteroid, not only ore or silicon).

their value and rarity range from extremely common (purple) to extremely rare (white).

crystal farming can be a steady income if one dos not wants to do missions by the by... or it can be a hobby if you just want to waste time and earn a bit of extra on the side...

it may take ages to actually get the motherloade of all crystals wich would be the white rarity.. something like Burnitite.

just to mention it... at one point during the paranid plot you will also need something more valuable than just bandannaite... you will need the orange variant... and thats as annoying as Mi Ton used to be. ]:)

Yeah that's what the internet says. And I have NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE.

Then I found the 21 I needed in, like, 15 minutes.

So...maybe they only exist when you manually crystal mine?

Wait...you're saying there's SOMETHING ELSE after this?

well im not sure if u did all the items but boso's research for that objective just takes 9 micorgimbals, 3 sedatives, 21 of those crystals, 9 remote detonates, 1 spacefly caviar, and then 1 billion credits. so almost everything else is pretty easy to get, i usually get hundreds of those crystals when i first start doing any crystal farming though.

lol white crystals? I've never seen white ones and I actually like crystal hunting lol. Crikey I thought the orange ones were rare?

I've spent hours crystal hunting and never seen a white one?

there is even an achievement if you find the rarest crystal...

I am also still missing that archivement to find that rare crystal. Probaply in the beginning when the "dropchances" where much higher than now, this was possible but now... I don't think I will ever get that archivement.

It also used to be possible to get the achievement by finding it in a lockbox, dropping it, then picking it back up. If you really want the achievement then there are a bunch of mods related to crystals and the mods won't disable achievements.

@Geist
just be patient and don't grab any crystal node you see, you'll stumble upon the BurnIt! crystals eventually.

mind you, the higher the risk of a sector the higher the chance you'll find rare crysals...put the stealth ship during the yaki plot to good use before you have to give up its ability is what i am saying ;)

@Pandorian
except the mods, wich i really dislike for personal reasons, the other methods are acceptable... dirty but legit.

Sure but it wasn't something I specifically went out of my way to try. I know I didn't use mods to get the rare crystal and I never liked crystal mining in general. Somewhere along the line I picked up the achievement by vacuuming up lockbox content.

Ha! I knew it! I've always found the best crystals in the hairest sectors. I cannot remember the sector now? But it was extremely risky flying around in a small ship, but I just kept finding loads of blues, yellows and quite a few orange beauties...but no white?

I'm gonna find one. Too precious to sell.
Gibbo Jun 18, 2023 @ 2:30am
Well I'll be a monkey's blue-arsed uncle. I've already got that achievement? One of two things has happened here. I got it early when I didn't know what was going on? Or it was that time I had too much rum?

I'm going for the latter, because for the life of me I have never seen a white crystal? I wonder what I did with it?
