What is the purpose of the elite sport ship?
You get it, but is absolutely useless .....

For show.

Its only bonus is that is has high engine speeds, but the lack of travel drives negates any advantage that this would bring aside from a very localised setting.

But yeah, it's almost useless in the Open Universe. No weapons or anything.

to place items like this in the game, just ruins it. It would be better to eliminate it or make it useful .

It is eyecandy of dubious eyecandiness and doesn't really have practical use. It is unlocked through Timelines and devs thought players would want a copy of it. In practice, none of the racing ship are interesting.

The racing ships are only trophies, nothing more.

The Dart would have been an awesome mission runner, if it got access to a single integrated pulse or beam laser. Missed opportunity there.

Modded the Dart travels at just short of 20km. You need to get somewhere personally you can't teleport to, the Dart is the vehicle to get your 'telepresence' there fast as well as dropping a satellite or resource probe in some nether region.

What's the point? Park it up and look at it lol. I take them for a spin sometimes. Nice to fly around your HQ in them. Not everything in the game has to be fighting or making credits. Just nice to go for a cruise and f2 that baby.

Playing modded currently, so I can't check, but didn't they add travel drive to the racing ships in the sandbox with 7.10?

If so, they would indeed make good sector explorers.

That would be NO ! the racing ships are mantle pieces or for doing laps around your PHQ.

Only the Dart got a travel drive.
