[REQUEST FOR GAME DEVS] Vertical Missile Launch Systems - (VMLS)
I can't tell you how much more Fun and Dynamic Ship-Ship Combat would be if we had these in-game! Imagine it's you, (A Single Terran Syn Destroyer), versus a Decent Xenon Fleet all on your own. Let's say 12 PE's 6 M's and 2 K's, right?

You had a decent overall setup, 2 Forward L Beam Turrets, 3 Terran Lances, 2 Rear L Pulse Turrets, and 2 M Missile Launchers with a Variety of Misssiles, and on the bottom same setup. And RIGHT in the CENTER of your Vessel... a VMLS with a Strategic Warhead loaded and ready to go!

You plunge STRAIGHT into the Enemy Fleet, mowing down the Fighters like a Fly Swatter, but you're approaching the Twin K's, you lock onto 1, fire that Warhead aaaaannnndddd.... BOOM! Instant Death. So now it's just you and the Final K, it's a CONSTANT bombardment of Turret fire! Really a no-holds barred battle! After a few minutes of this your Warhead is loaded up again! You quickly launch it and BAM! No more Xenon Fleet!

Tell me you guys didn't get as excited about that thought as I did? If you do, you're a damn liar.

This should probably go in ideas and suggestions

X4 isn't really a superweapon kind of game. Even the asgard turbo death ray is a bit of an exception, being a unique weapon for a unique ship from a dlc faction.

Is that not something you want also?

I dunno, I don't find them that appealing as a game mechanic. Even in RTS games like Starcraft or C&C, or 4X's like Civilization, I never use them much. However, it would give a great line in the gameplay settings menu:

Allow nukes.

I would be fine with it if the AI also has them. If other sides cannot have them why can only the player have them? It sounds like you are just requesting an "I win" button with extra steps.

This brings a serious risk of turning X4 into a post-apocalyptical survival game... :-)

No, that is not exciting or interesting to me. Even in games with WMDs, if there's the option, I disable them. They are too easy for yourself, and too annoying in the AI's hands (and it wouldn't make sense for the player only to have them). Leads to rushing them so you can nuke the enemy before they can nuke you. Or rushing the countermeasure so you don't have to worry about them and then what was the point?

I get that it is exciting for some folks. I'd say either as an optional item (game start option, but the devs seem kind of against that kind of stuff for some reason) or a mod.

* Are you aware of high mass teleportation?
* Or have you tried to use torpeo launcher swarms? Like 100 chimeras with 4 torpedo launchers each.

Nukes are boring in space. It is just flash, EMP blast and that's it. No mushroom cloud and no shockwave.

who says that torpedoes aren't already nuclear weapons? 90% of a nuclear weapon's devastation is provided for free by earth's atmosphere. There is no such freebie in space.

The AI can't even handle the main weapon properly, and now you want to give them nukes?

It needs to practice in order to prepare for Judgement Day... :)

Actually we could take OPs desire to have bigger boom and turn it into a way to make player life interesting.

How about.

* Instead of a missile, it is a bomb. "Quantum bomb".
* The bomb is installed into any freighter with over 10k cargo space, and has no launcher.
* It is only available to NPC factions.
* And will be deployed against player sectors by factions with -30 relations, if player navy becomes too strong.
* Upon activation, the bomb destroys all ships in the sector.
* And deletes the sector from the world map.
* Permanently.

How's that. 😁
