Is there a way for AI to locate lock boxes for me ?
I've got find mission to retrieve 2 lock boxes, I found the first one no issues, but I can't seem to find the second one. I'm trying to chase down echoes, but the two blue echos I've been chasing are leading me down 100 of kilometers below the axial plane. and still nothing. When I select the mission zone and do a scan, I just don't pick up anything. I can only guess the lockboxes maybe got sent drifting and is now outside the mission zone ?

I've seen them upwards of 50ish KM out of the mission zone. That said, you can definitely have the AI locate them for you. If you already explored the region, manually send them on flight paths at different elevations will get them to eventually notify you when a box is found. The more scouts, the more flight paths, the better and faster.

Can I tell it to explore a radius arround mission objective ? I have issues alligning the explore command to the mission zone

Negative, that's why I mentioned manually creating flight paths with chained "Fly and wait" orders. Turn the map all the way facing down and click were you want the ship to go, using left click to drag the map. Holding down right click after to get a side view, then use shift and drag that command upwards and downwards along the mission area.

It's not the best solution, but I found it the only reliable way to get AI to complete those missions for me when spending an hour or two looking at pings didn't sound like a fun use of time.

There's explore command, but it will instantly terminate if you have no fog there. It is a good idea to use Sapporo or Hyperion. They have longer radar range. If you have them, of course.

Ok, I've found it. For some reason the lockbox wasn't from a blue echo but from a yellow one.

Mission boxes are indicated by yellow/gold echo. Basically it is rarity/importance. Gold means expensive stuff, derelict or a mission box.

I've had em ping blue and not ping at all before, fwiw.

When you ping something it appears as a ? on the map. I use that to locate stuff.

Only if you're close enough. Either that or I'm terrible at manipulating the map...

No, you are correct. If you get close enough, they'll appear as a blue flashing ? with a hint of gold to it (regular ones I haven't noticed that hint of gold), then when you get much closer and ping it, it'll switch over to a gold ? and update your objective.

DIstance vary depending on the thing. Lockbox and vault have a short range, station/gate appear from far away as a ?.
But if you are near/inside the objective area, it should show lockboxes on the map, as the mission area is not very big (usually).

It doesn't update the objective. Only when you get close to it. So you can have the ? on the map but no update.

The captain of my Sapporo, just hanging out near my home station, would detect lockboxes at fairly regular intervals. Seemed to be like a 50-75km radius? I've successfully tested moving him elsewhere to hang out and picked up a couple boxes there too.

Granted, the sapporo can't actually collect those lockboxes, but any scout with a single fixed gun can do that.

And conveniently, a Sapporo can easily carry scouts. I think the problem is suggesting it to newer players who likely have no way to deal with the giant bug guarding the thing, if they have even completed Timelines to unlock it.

Sapporo has a massively upgraded radar range. It's unique in that way.

Ahhh, that makes sense.
