explorer not exploring?
I´m new to X4.
I´ve got my 1st ship with captain and want to send it exploring.
I ordered it to explore a sector but now it is just sitting in the center of the sector doing nothing.
What´s wrong?

Hard to say without any screenshots or even a (unmodded) save file.
At least make a screenshot of the ship's information window and the behavior/order tab.

Just putting a ship on explore a sector doesn't seem to work well. You can either be patient and let it take forever to explore the sector or manually do it in a vastly more efficient way from the map.

The AI seems very rough when it comes to exploring a sector.

I mean it a press one button and forget it totally good at what it do.
It just not 100% robot exploration like some mod.

It goes to the center and slowly expand out.
You can literally just have a ship explore and a few hour later have multiple sector explored as long as you keep up queuing up explore command.

If you want a 5 minute explore everything at maximum efficiency then mods

It simply takes a long time. VERY long time. Especially with low skill level. If you want to quickly reveal the map the best idea would be to order it to fly yourself or drop satellites. Exploration command, however, slowly levels your captain.
so just setting a course manually that reveals the whole sector is much faster?

The fastest way to explore is to queue up movement commands manually. I think it was shift + right click to queue up the waypoints.

I usually start on the corners and then basically spiral inwards. Works all right, it's just annoying to set up and annoying that the explore command can't work like that on its own without handholding

This is also what I do. Sadly it will not find anything that is above or below the normal level as the range of the ship sensor is only 40km.
Hmmm... okay. So the exploration order isn’t really working.
I tried to make my ship refresh trade data – same thing. It flies to a starting position and then just crawls around super slowly.
Is that order broken too?
Is the whole order system just... broken in this game?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I’m too far in to refund now, and I’m just trying to get something working (not very successfully so far).

Is there some "debug mode" to find out why or what ships with orders try to do?

Automatic trading and mining work all right when you delegate the ships to work for a station. Repeat orders are tedious to set up, but also work mostly reliably. Local automining also works OK when there are refineries in the sector that actually produce and sell their stuff (if not, they'll stop buying once they're full)

Lots of semi functional or dysfunctional stuff in the game. Still enjoy playing it, though. You just have to learn what does and what doesn't work
So after 10 years of X most things are not working as intended, really?
Azunai Apr 17 @ 3:03am
I don't know what is or isn't intended. my observation is that some commands work so poorly that i don't use them at all. Like all of the patrol and fleet commands. Or the exploration. Maybe they're working as intended, but certainly not well enough to be useful
This game is a bug fest.
Made my explorer fly manually laid paths but now it won´t reveal the map when i´m not looking. there are some revealed spots on the way it took but it looks like it "jumped" the way in some sort of bad background simulation.

Explore works fine and always has for me. I left click on my scout and then right click in the centre of sector and click explore and that's it. Don't forget they go up and down as well as left, right, backwards and forwards so while it may look like it's doing nothing it might actually be mapping a different plane.

That's what they look like when my scout is finished. The only thing I adjust is the size of the explore bubble. You don't need it twice the size of the sector. I just adjust that to fit the sector and you do that in the ship's behaviour tab.

Explore do work for me as well

Pretty much a click and forget and by a few hour it usually in it 2nd or 3rd sector

If you have a 3 star explorer it faster but explore is good for leveling so definitely try to leave it for the low rank unless you want a 5 star pilot

Yeah this is what I do. I have 4 scouts all exploring. They were all less than one star and are now just under 3 stars. Once they hit 3 stars they will get a nice, shiny L miner to go advanced mining in and a fresh noob will carry on scouting.

I get 4 or 5 advanced miners this way. There's a lot to explore.
