I thought I was getting elite dangerous single player BUT
I got factorio, rimworld, FTL, Eve Online, Stellaris, Elite Dangerous, and Star Citizen all in one.

I have to take a step back and wait to dive into this game. I know its going to consume my life. lol.

I'm off to go watch like 40 hours of youtube videos.

Coming from Elite Dangerous the moment when you walk on the landing dock of your first destroyer or even carrier is going to be a memorable experience. Have fun.

Just play it, and hit YouTube up when you get stuck?

ED doesn't convey any sense of scale compared to X4. Standing on the deck of a capital ship with fighters undocking and pewpew firing in a large scale battle is certainly something.
You should do the tutorials and interactive tutorials in the game. Also the timelines missions before starting a sandbox. Or just dive in a sandbox and do the interactive tutorials and just wreak havoc. watching videos kind of kills the mystery and the fun of exploration. imo.

except they are the videos that are to be found in the shift + H (aka tutorial) section...

When you come from ED you really like the teladi trade station. Only valid with a mail slot.

speaking of wich... i won't accept complaints about "docking too hard" from an ED player... you can dock at a coreolis, you can dock at an outpost... you can dock everywere...

I sunk well over 100 hours into it when it first sucked me in. A few hundred more in the meantime.

YES. Its surprisingly chill. You don't need to engage with the whole game from the beginning, u can be just 1 pilot following the narrative parts and its very fun. Not a ton of controls.

Recommend the Terran start for that.

I've got nearly 1000 hours in this game over the years and I am still figuring out a lot of things. That's the beauty of it. The "new" wears off in a day or two for most games and you know almost everything so fast. That makes games boring. This game keeps you learning. The mystery is always there.
X4 is a massive game! I hope you have a blast with it.

Just noticed a new thing. If you go in one of your capital ship, then crew quarter (need to have one, I did on a raptor). You can get a crewmate "chilling". You can start a convo and ask them to "get back to work" at which point they run for the nearest elevator and leave with a "yes sir/ma'am".
Mean and funny.
