[Shower Thought] Sol looks boring...

That's Poetic idealized version of Sol, for the record. Embellished. If you check out Space Engine, Celestia or just Elite Dangerous, our system is just a sea of black with some sparkles where you don't even see planets that well. That stuff where one planet is right next to another is only possible to see through telescopes. X4 has some sectors like that. Those are almost on No Man's Sky level of improbability.

I know. Classic sci-fi embellishment.

I wish we would have a sector that actualy looks like a void. I imagine a sector far outside on the edge of the galaxy. if you look into lets say left direction you can see the milky way and if you look anywhere else there is only black. That would be cool.
Most of our ideas of what space looks like come from something like a false colour image of a long exposure of a spectrum of light we can't see taken by a massive telescope. They're not wrong per se, but they're not what it would look like to you if you lived there.

But since you live in Sol orbit you'd notice if they made it weird.

Space is boring. That's reality.

If it was interesting it would be about as realistic and comical as Bugs Bunny.

Make the void sector an actual void lol

Reminds me of an Uknown Sector in X3 which you could only access via the Unfocused Jump Drive, which was infested with Kha'ak.

That's Oort Cloud sector.

Elite Dangerous tried to do a realistic galaxy. Their milky way looks like brown pea soup. It looks like a faint, distant visage of the soup when it is far away, at first, but if you try to reach the center of the galaxy, you'll be swimming in that endless brown.

Their galaxy is apparently voxel-based at the core, so closer to the center this begins to happen:

"Walls of stars". Densely packed star regions that abruptly end forming perfect wall or cube. A graphical glitch nobody fixed, I'd assume.

An at the center of it all you'd be met with the biggest disappointment.

That's supposed to be a blackhole. "Saggitaurus A*". They didn't update its visuals after interstellar. In VR this things pulses when you move your head and in general looks unpleasant. It also brings alternative interpretations of "A*" in its name to your mind.

*sighs*

Install a copy of Stellarium its free and is a great way to see what is what so you can go and and really look up :)

I already have SpaceEngine.

...which is why one of my first activities in X4 was to whine about the low quality of skyboxes, which look like they used unenhanced Voyager 2 photos :steammocking:

SpaceEngine =/= Stellarium as Stellarium is free professional/amateur astronomy software.

Since we can not land on planets in X its unnecessary to use huge resources on wasting super high resolution on something better suited for time spent developing other areas of the game.

A skybox overhaul doesn't require huge resources. A good half of it could be solved with a single Space Engine commercial license and a weekend of browsing :steammocking:

I do kind of wish they'd update them now that we can zoom in and see how blatantly low res they are. Also, some of the ones in Windfall still have visible seams in them and look more like someone modelled a colon in blender than a nebula or whatever they're meant to resemble.

Yes I already reported the visible texture seams in the background "nebular" a few days after the dlc released it looks very ugly because of that.

I use the Stars mod, which cleans up stars a lot. I like my stars looking like stars, rather than smudgy grey blobs =:)
