for some players, owning one as early as possible was and is one of their greatest goal to achieve while others try to unlock and mass produce their own asgards the legit way.
lets just say...
it makes fun using a player controlled asgard to its full potentional... once.
after that... you may be bored faster that it took you to obtain your first.
But yeah, it's the Grand Dragon of the game right now, at least militarily.
The Erlking https://roguey.co.uk/x4/ships/ship_pir_xl_battleship_01_a_macro/ is also mighty deadly. The Asgard can beat it easily, but the Erlking can double as a cargo ship when there isn't anything that needs blowing up.
If you poke around in the game, it gives you ways to compare ships to each other that's pretty fun.
But at the moment I'm happy just beating the bush and being a lone wolf. Can't imagine I'll ever get one with my playstyle, let alone want to have to deal with upkeeping one.
But yes. Anything can be defeated in the end.

I genuinely hope that one day X4's AI will be smart enough to make the game as challenging as you’ve described.
Yes, I can't wait to get into the modifications for my ships, just messing around.
Making credits, doing my best to avoid triggering the HQ just yet.
Just got my hands on a balaur from free family's. I know most people don't like them but I enjoy working with them. Ugly as hell but I enjoy their straight to the point antics.
Remind me if Asians were Indians, kinda funny.
They make great pilots, and then I send them to the vig wharf for filling out the crew, very pirate-e themed. Helps with role playing being a smuggler.
At some point after finishing most of the quest lines, going to build up all the pirate factions and just live my life killing and bullying the major "allied" factions since they can just go get bent and stuffed down a torpedo tube.
They are not that intimidating to use. I use them as a battering ram to get into enemy sectors. They can soak up loads of damage while I micro my fighters to take out any and all large and capital ships. They are also good for station destruction although they will take their time.
Something seems off with it blowing up the I just as the heat goes to orange, too. I modded mine for damage and it can destroy an I, but it goes red to do it. Maybe I didn't get the most bestest mod in there, I'll have to check.
It's not easy to keep the Yaki going. I don't know if there's much way to build up the Scale Plate - maybe capture ships for them? I think your best bet would probably be the Free Families - or whichever Split faction it is that sends marauders out.
Waiting for that gun to cool off is one of the few times I'll use SETA.
Disable the remaining two TER main cannons—they're ineffective and only slow down the cooling process.
Nice!
The number of enemies is quite low.
I did plow through a Xenon sector on a modded asgard in a mission to destroy a Xenon shipyard (in exchange of paintjob) before, destroyed what seemed like dozen xenon capitals, but the point is... those guys knocked out several of my turrets. And that's under human control. So asgards die. Especially when NPC-controlled. A common cause of death is broadside from I or K that snuck up on the ship from above.
This is one of the most crowded Xenon sectors in the vanilla game, but if you know of a more crowded one, let me know.
The AI struggles with chasing moving targets, so staying on the move is crucial for survival—never be a sitting duck.

Unmodified asgards certainly die, the way I described before, especially when AI controlled. Modified asgard is much harder to kill, but is still vulnerable.
I was thinking maybe more towards the vigs, since I have found their wharf and shipyard. Been selling them bunch of hull parts and they keep cranking out fighters. Silent witness is pretty much a no fly zone for traders now lol.
Haven't meet the Yaki yet, scale plates.. are kinda meh. Interested in the Rigs? The miner/scavengers? Bumped into them and some odd casino way out no where.
Hard to think about how I'll actually pull it off since anyone besides the split seem to produce any thing big enough to fight a massive fleet when I do start whacking at the argons.
Was going to start learning how to board ships soon, so maybe one day I can steal a few builders or carriers.
Yaki are hard to find, though I won't spoil the surprise. They have some good ship blueprints you might want to get.
