OK - so after I read your post I went into the game and looked to verify that it in fact had Ore and Gas, then I noticed that what I'm seeing is actually the readings from everything in my view, it isn't just showing me what it is that my ship is in. So I guess the choices its giving me is only where those resources are... which means that when I'm setting up my miners, I need to be careful because when its setting up for a resource if I do two on NVidium they will compete with each other.
The economy is based on Helium, Hydrogen, Ice, Methane, Ore, and Silicon
I suggest to Mine Ore and Silicon with your early game miners because those are always in demand.
"So I guess the choices its giving me is only where those resources are... " this is correct
" then I noticed that what I'm seeing is actually the readings from everything in my view" correct all trade filters and ressource probes work this way. So if you zoom in you see trades / ressources in that area if you zoom out you see the best prices /biggest ressourc fields.
This is a very good system but needs time to get used to. If you unlock all the sectors in the future this allows you to see the best prices in the whole universe by zooming out or only see best prices in a smaller area if you zoom in.
Hence. Explore more. lol. Exploration is really slow. I've had one ship exploring the same sub sector for around 10 hours, and he's still not done.
You can limit the range of the explore command to the core of a sector (in the ships order menu if you open the explore command you can adjust its range.)
I suggest to limit it to about the size of the initial sector borders (most of the time 200-250km) this way you wont find all stations but most of them and you save a lot of time. Because by default it looks for a range of 350km. You can also hire more cheap ships for this job (they dont need good weapons or shields just give them the cheapest stuff and none or only one cheap pulse laser to open lockboxes they may find and they are good to go.
Fastest way of course would be if you explore a few sectors by yourself. Especialy the sectors around the "Highway ring" (that starts in Argon prime) are usefull because many important stations are located on the ring.
The Khaak also like HOP space so be careful where you put a M miner. A L miner will survive the Khaak. Although the Khaak can build up into massive swarms and a L miner will not survive that, but that's pretty rare.
Basically you can't mine a resource that does not exist in the sector. The auto-mine menu lets you pick a sector that HAS the resource, but not necessarily in large amounts. Helium is a pain point and hard to get around Argon Prime. It is present in very small amounts in hatikvah and should be present in Morning Star, but Morning Star has BUC which can blow you up.
I would be sure to balcklist all enemy sectors so you don't have boneheaded pilots venturing into Xenon space never to be seen again.
If a pilot is dumb enough to fly into enemy space for a sight seeing tour, well... improved gene pool. On a more serious note, thank you for the advice.
200 hours later...
New Steam Topic: "My new 1 Billion credits Asgard flew into enemy territory and died" Seriously Egosoft, why is your F*ing AI so ****** and ****. F*** you all!!!!1111eleven
The rest of us:
"Did you make a blacklist?"
This made me cackle. The Teladi have always been scaly Ferengi in my mind and you've reminded me of the scene from Star Trek Deep Space Nine where someone had come to Quark wanting a custom holodeck program featuring Major Kira as their "companion" for the evening, only to get... something else entirely.
