Well that's kinda lame. They are a pain in the ass to build now....
It doesn't consume them, so that's something.
The reason for the change was that the faction economies could fall into a catch-22 death spiral with the prior requirements. For example, if hull parts factories are destroyed, you can't build a hull parts factory to replace it because you can't produce hull parts to build it.
or at least new stations, since my existing ones dont need plasmathingies for hull parts
EDIT: wait, you mean: to build the module, not the actual parts?
Correct, they just change the materials required to build the production module.
To build the module itself, and it is not just new saves, It's retroactive. I yesterday I started building a complex that would supply me with building materials like claytronics, etc. It has all of its resources. Patched the game and now I am short about 8k Plasma Conductors, which are a pain in the ass to find.
Please disregard this asinine comment.
Instead of adding 2 new Blueprints with the new cost requirement ... They modify the default Blueprint and piss off some people...
This Update start to have a bitter taste...
lol no you don't need to mod the game. You could revert back to 7.0 or just deal with the fact that you now need plasma conductors. By the time you're able to build stations there should be plenty of them for sale. I had no trouble getting them for my 7 mega shipyards.
This was in a custom start, so I was able to get things up and running much quicker than in a normal game. Even so, no shortage of plasma conductors in the sectors near Two Grand in the first few hours.
While the change isn't terrible, i think they overdid it with the plasma conductors. You need 1200 or so for a single hull parts module and a plasma conductors module only generates about 180 per hour.
They're also huge. 32 units of storage per item, so an M trader with 10k storage can only transport 300 or so at once and needs 4 trips to fetch the materials for a single hull parts module
