So, basically, the plot of Babylon 5, just replacing the Vorlon and Shadow with good and evil Sohnen?

> build but can capture

If you stick with the lore, that's not happening. They're absolutely out of reach for existing races. Likewise, if there was a Sohnen faction thinking that X races are unnecessary, then X races would stop existing in about a hour.

They only care about heat death of the universe. They only paid attention to humans/etc because they became a significant error factor in their computations. And it would be probably best to keep them this way.

Good vs evil conflicts are quite cliched and belong to fairy tales. World is not black and white, conflicts are not binary and result from clashing interests, usually without right and wrong. Current version of Sohnenn is much more interesting than yet another cookie cutter cutter story about "good" and "bad" guys.

Yawn.

The story in X4 would allow for a new race, but not the Sohnen. They are like Gods. Not even sure if they take a human form? They might be gases? But as it's suspected they control the gates and it's suggested that they open and close certain gates to keep the rest of the universe safe, well that kinda tells me something far more terrible than the Xenon is out there and maybe we should meet them? In 20 Asgards.

The Sohnen are already in-game in the Timelines DLC. The protagonist is an artificial organism build by them and the whole ordeal takes place aboard a Sohnen installation. The Overseer of the installation certainly is Sohnen.

Also, they're artificial beings themselves, build by the ancients (who do not have physical form anymore) to act as their means to interact with the galaxy.

As the ancients' goal is to preserve all life, the idea of evil Sohnen does not add up lore-wise.

Sohnenn are present in X4. In Timelines. No, no human form, but they made immortal artificial organisms for giggles, pretty much.

I think this might be something in future X games. I mean we have been a bit spoilt with this. The game has finally become pretty epic. It dawned on me the other day when starting a new game. I thought Jesus I have plenty to do here lol. And then later I was sending cheap couriers to all the faction reps so I can tele in and out when needed and there's at least 12 of those buggers now. Several huge plots. Yeah I think there's enough pots on the boil in this game now. I've still got to build a palace, steal a yacht and I haven't even touched the Split plot yet as I only have 6 spacefly eggs and I need 25 for caviar although I haven't even gave that plot any thought as I'm nearing the end of the Terran plot and then I'll be on the Yaki plot and at some point finally get my hands on that yacht. Or both of them.

Yes I kinda forgot about Timelines. I haven't touched that since I got all the toys. Easy to forget about.

New races don't do it for me. Not unless they're done really well and are REALLY different. What's the point having yet another 21st century human in an alien costume?

I like the annoying tweety-voice Borons cos they actually look alien, but even they are just 'woke' pc 21st century humans in costume when you see how they act. Aliens just aren't `ALIEN`, in games or movies these days.

I think Mass effect 1 came closest to making some aliens seem really alien in their communications and culture with humans.

Guys, do you think the cylinder structure in the hidden sector behind the Avarice anomaly could be a Sohnen Cylinder? If it is a Sohnen Cylinder, it would contain part of the Presence Cloud. Which would mean that the "protectyon" we use in our Tide shields is nothing more than the Ancient race's computronium substrate. So we would be consuming parts of the consciousness of the Ancient race...

The Boron have always been cuddly. I admit it gets on my nerves a bit, but they are what they are. I quite like the fact their ships are unique. Probably not a popular opinion? But that makes more sense to me because if ET ever lands on earth I bet we can't stick one of our turbos in their spacecraft. Like how can the Split, a race of honey badgers more or less be compatible with commonwealth and Terran ships? I feel like we should work a bit harder building ships and aquiring blueprints. Teladi are naked birds for God's sake. I think they all should be unique and not plug and play.

While understandable and definetely interesting, the lore doesn't support this.

The Ancients (via the Sohnen) basically sort all species they find into 'realms' with similar species. The rationale being that the more similar species are, the better they will get along (aka not have wars and eradicate themselves) until they are ready to become part of the Ancients.

The jumpgate network our X4 is set in us just one realm of many. The Kha'ak actually are part of a different realm where they live with a bunch of other insectoid species. They are only able to show up outside this because they have created gateless jump drives.

All that being said, Egosoft might still introduce some new species. In X3:TC, one of the plots alluded to the Wenendra. They are another aquatic species that the Borons have made contact with and are shepherding from the other commonwealth factions because they're still developing.

Design-wise, it definetely could be Sohnen/Ancient. However, I doubt it is part of the Presence Cloud. Aren't those housed in Dyson spheres? Also, I highly doubt the Ancients would just let you steal/kill/consume some of their people.

The Sohnen are part of the old race. The old race is a physical-virtual type III civilisation on the path to a type IV civilisation. = They have access to ressources and energy of at least a whole galaxy up to all the ressources and energy of a galaxy supercluster. They do not fight with the lesser beings and especialy not over something as unimportant as a sector of a planet system, because they have access to billions of them.
So because of that we should just say screw it and not have any in game contact or experience with them at all?

Damn... I kinda wish there was more races....

The X4 universe is too tame I want to see the entire universe burning so I can sit back and watch the fire even help it burn more.

Heck let me play as the xenon and I'll do it myself.

I want to play as a xenophobic isolationist unfortunately that's not possible In this game sadly as you HAVE to be friends with everyone in order to make money get ships and the warf and shipyard blueprints... yuck.

lol we've just had Timelines which does exactly what you describe. They are a higher power. They work in the shadows. A bit like how we rehabilitate wild animals. The only thing they see is the barrel of a tranquilizer gun and then wake up with a hangover and some mystery surgery. I mean you wouldn't want to remove the tooth of a hippo while it's awake. That's how powerful alien overlords would work I reckon. In the shadows.
