Yes, trade and industry do play a big role, but you can setup AI pilots to do all of that for you. You just need to get them started. Once you get your first mining ship with a pilot that isn't you aboard, you will have guaranteed income coming in regularly.
When I started, I just plopped a bunch of stuff down and waited to see what resources were lacking a few hours later. Then I just added to whatever was lacking. This is one approach you can use very successfully. If you're the type of person who needs to min/max then excell may be useful to you, but in no means must you use it.
I like salt on my rice, but it isn't needed to satisfy my hunger, ya know? It just makes it more pleasant to swallow. This may be another way to look at it.
The interface can initially seem confusing... but once you get the hang of it, it's actually pretty simple.
x4 is worth the learning curve. There is tons of info on utube and the community here is awesome. I've asked lot's of stupid questions and will continue to do so.
I'm only about 40 hours in and I've got a nice fleet of ships and a killer station to call my own. and I probably spent 35 of those hours just messing around and looking at cool stuff. My progress is nothing compared to some of these guys.
Buy x4 and you can build an empire or just do missions, The universe is yours...
I watched some gameplay on YouTube and afterward decided to buy the game. I've bought many games this way, and have yet to regret it.
What sold me was you can go from nothing to building a huge empire, and it all takes place on your machine, you don't need a company's servers.
The interfaces are a bit overwhelming at first, but you just have to get used to it. We humans are quite adaptable in that regard. lol
That said, I'm really enjoying X4. It is very involving and eats time like there's no tomorrow. Be warned.
Depends on you. What's the kind of games you like? If you tell me, then I can tell you whether you need to know excell to play or not.
