Erlking and Barbarossa
Hello, I'm currently starting the Tides of Avarice questline and was wondering how to get the Erlking and Barbarossa. I heard that the Erlking can be obtained somewhere within VIG systems either by capturing it or destroying it and scanning the core to get the BP, but is it possible to get both the BP and the ship itself peacefully? As for the Barbarossa, do you just need to get your reputation up to 20 with the VIG?

Yes. The Erlking is best captured by using a ship with very high marine capacity (200+), buying marines from the VIG shipyard (although buying "normal" marines you get randomly ones with better stats, so you could end up with let's say 100 veterans and 100 recruits). Fly that ship yourself to the Erlking, initiate the boarding dialogue and set all dropdown options to maximum. This is starting a so called "fly by boarding" - this will not force you to shoot at the ship and it's components and instead it only involves the boarding capsules reaching the ship safely. Once all are docked the marines will cut through the hull and after a (löng) time the ship is simply yours. Your only task after initiating the boarding is to get the hell out of the sector and NEVER engage with any VIG ships which are scripted to engage IF you take too long to initiate the boarding. (there are AFAIK 3 warnings, then the script will send a hostile patrol).

The standing with VIG will not be harmed (the important part is that you really don't shoot at any VIG - as this will just lead to a cascade you don't want) thus you can buy blueprints and develop the faction rank normally.

Can I still get the Erlking BP despite not scanning its core? Because that's what I'm assuming so far .

There is no need for pondering on that. Simply capture the Erlking like I described it and be done with it.

You can only have one Erlking. If you loose the Erlking you get the "Core" research. There will never be an option to build multiple Erlkings, So "blueprint" might be a bit misleading here.

Ohhh I see, thanks for the clarification I thought we were able to build multiple Erlkings.

You can have two through a glitch on a custom start. But this is not intended and I don't know what'll happen if you lose one of them.

If you select final state of erlking on custom start, you'll start with an Erlking. But then you'll be able to build one more. So you'll have two of them. Within existing game if you're getting it for the first time you can only have one.

Glitches and mods and cheats aside of course the devs intended the player to have only one Erlking as it is a unique ship.
Has anyone ever seen marine pods get mulched during a Yeet and Skeet maneuver? I’ve genuinely never had my pods get shot down with how bad the turrets are at targeting them.

From my understanding, the thing to note about the Erlking is that it is incomplete. There are modules - weapons, shields, etc. - that can only be fit on the Erlking. In order to get the BPs for those, you have to track down data vaults hidden around VIG and RIP space.

As for the Barbarossa, you can buy one from any faction shipyard, not just VIG. The BP, though, I'm not entirely sure of. I haven't checked yet about buying any L ship BPs because I don't have a shipyard myself.

VIG is the only faction that sells Barbarossas or the blueprint for it.

Really? Must be a glitch or something for me, because I can buy the ship from any faction shipyard, even the Terrans.

Definitely a glitch. It's like buying an Asgard at the Teladi discount store.

Is there a way to make the station (VIG Keepsafe) NOT firing and destroying the Erlking while its being boarded? o_O
Seems they rather destroy it than let it fall into my hands..
I had the Erlking destroyed first time (drive by boarding), but not the second time.
Just reload.
Not sure why, think it was before capture, so they shouldn't have fired on it.
Just got the message from boso saying the core had survived....

Yes. Board it remotely, while you, the player are in another sector. Send boarding ship through the map, move it close to Erlking, initiate boarding process. Consider not closing the map until done. SETA is strongly recommended.
