Two of the fleets I have at present are assigned to guard gates against Xenon intrusion. A third fleet that I have is setup to be an attack fleet and is currently playing guard duty for one of my stations, waiting for when I make a push into Xenon space. I'm currently working to build up a forth fleet with a Raptor as the carrier. Future fleets will more likely have the Colossus Sentinel like my two current gate guard fleets.
While both of my gate guard fleets are built around a Colossus Sentinel, their destroyer escorts are different. For one, I've got Behemoth E's on defense, with Behemoth and Oddy (the Paranid destroyer) Vanguards on attack. The other guard fleet has two Terran Syn's and two Osaka's on defense, with two Behemoth Vanguards and two Rattlesnakes on attack. All my capital ships, with the except of the two Syn's, have plasma turrets in their L slots and a mix of ARG Flak and beam turrets in their M slots for anti-fighter/missile defense. The two Syn's have a mix of plasma and TER Beam turrets in their L slots. The Syn destroyer is lacking in M slots for anti-fighter defense, so I used four of the eight L slots for TER Beams with Slasher mods to deal with fighters.
I've also included a Behemoth Vanguard in the fleets that has tracking missile turrets in the M slots to supposedly help with anti-fighter support. Not sure how well that is working yet.

Everything else is just for vanity, as I see no real use for them with the current fleet/game mechanics.
One carrier might be a Colossus with a wing of Chimera bombers while the next is a Tokyo with Barracudas or Eclipses, escorted by 4 different types of destroyers and a random assortment of M ships.
Not the most efficient but i like the variety when watching battles and they work well enough.
For station demolition I like to use the Chimera as a torpedo bomber and it does fantastic job.
I don't use too much destroyers, I don't find them very usefull, for me when I go invade I make a maintenance facility that can produce torpedo's and then I just send Chimera's to destroy everything big with Nova's as escort to take out the smaller ships and serve as canon fodder.
Corvettes are very much useless specially against stations.
Destroyers are slow and they take a while to destroy a station while on the opposite, Chimera+Torpedo's makes quick work of a station.
And they make very quick work of any destroyer and or battleship.
The only issue with bombers is the resupply, they tend to use a ♥♥♥♥ ton of supplies in bigger operations so you have to be well prepared but I like the logistic challenge.
For carrier it would be Shark or Colossus E, Chimeras or Moreyas for S fighters, Katanas or Cobras for M fighter. A typical loadout would be Argon Bolt Repeaters (Proton Barrage for Katanas), SPL MK3 range (cheaper than Mk4, fast for short range), Terran shields. If it is SPL, it could have one Ion Blaster.
For a strike force to nab a Kha'ak hive (again) one purple asgard would suffie, or I could send 3-5 syns. Terran shields, engines, L lasers, argon M flak. Asgard works better, because if it is just one ship, you can purple-mod it. (Slingshot, Nanotube, shield regen, Annihilator for beam, Slasher for turrets).
For Aux, Nomad is good, for exploration Sapporo with bunch of Katanas as escort.
