Anyone find that the game is too slow/boring?
I'm at about 50 hours or so in my current game, and while things are getting interesting, I find that I am sitting in my ship with SETA on managing my empire far more often than I am fighting or witnessing battles. I love the visual and combat/dogfighting aspect of the game far more than i do the economy and management side of it, and i just don't know how or if I can even fix that problem. When will I see more fleet battles and combat scenarios??? I really want to like this game, but its becoming more and more difficult to hit the Start button. There's just too much waiting for something to happen.

Game does have some really nice touches. I was just stealing a blueprint from a HOP station and a Xenon came in range, but it was on the highway and I could hear someone say Xenon detected and then alarms going off on the station and I'm thinking crap I'm on the rob here and now they're red alert lol and sure enough station security appeared and my rep went from -7 to -9 so I can still trade and I got what I wanted.

I felt like space James Bond.

All space sims are like this, and I love them / play them as they allow me to submerge and enjoy in this slowboating/floating beauty. And I wouldn't love them to change that, I still play X3 stuff without SETA at all, strictly slow boating.

I think that's why they created Timelines.

For quick adrenaline/dopamine hit there are other games too.

X3 features a jump drive in the mid-to-late game, whereas X4 lacks this, making it feel even slower than X3.

Well, this can be a part of the system "if you are friends with someone, then you must trade with him". But ye, this annoys me most.
I'm not sure I understand this. As far as I know, having -9 or greater reputation with a faction allows you to trade with them. I guess I could say that having greater than -10 reputation would be considered "friend" status when it comes to trading. As far as I'm aware the only things that reputation affects down the road is the ability to purchase certain blueprints or ships. I'm not sure if there is a "tax" modifier that will affect the pricing of wares or not. As far as I'm aware the only thing that affects pricing is the storage amount or quantity a station has on hand. I don't think reputation affects this, but I could be wrong.

What do you mean by "If you are friends with someone, then you must trade with him"? As far as I'm aware the system pretty much works like this if the player has greater than -9 reputation with the faction then the faction "has" to allow trading with the player.

I'm not sure I caught your meaning.

When you get every +10 rep, there will be a message saying a discount is available. +30 will say a "huge" discount, but I was never able to figure out how much.

Yeah, I never noticed a price difference. I suppose you would have to either be a spreadsheet warrior, constant warmongeror or programmer to notice. Maybe you are able to acquire reputation quick enough that the modifier isn't noticeable. Perhaps the modifier becomes exponentially "less taxing" as the reputation becomes exponentially larger so I never noticed it since I'm between 25-30 for the majority of the play through. Maybe the noticeable difference is only at -9 reputation and two or three trades removed the largest trade penalty or reputation modifier to the base price of the ware, ya know? I mean, I'm exaggerating, but i think it gets the point across.

You can see what discounts you get and how high they are in the trade window. The reputation ones are called "Prized Investor" and are usually somewhere in the 5-10% range.

The disparity in the availability and supply of wares when you start your universe or play through probably negates the affects of the reputation penalty you have when you start.

Perhaps the profit margins are the same because of the disparity of availability of the goods, or perhaps I just set out too many satellites to find the best profit margins so I just don't really notice when I start out.

I loaded up the game to check this out. I'm curious now. :) I wish you would have given a screenshot because, I'm not really seeing the modifier or penalty in my trade window. My trader logbooks seem to be empty too. Can you show this in a simple to understand way? I'm not sure I know how to see this.

I never noticed this. I always just looked at profit margin. Thanks. Now I know. :)

Sometimes i play the game 30 minutes in pause-mode only on the map, and no, it is not boring.
What are you doing during this time? Also, could you please share, what goals are you trying to achieve in the game and what decisions are you making during achieving these goals? I really would love to love this game, but I feel I'm missing something.
I look on my economy. I build new stations or make stations bigger.
I check, where the best place for a new station is, related to e.g. ore-systems or my shipyards.
I check my military, build new ships, if necessary.
I have a few traders, which that i manage by hand, sometimes i give them a dozen trading-orders.
And then i unpause and hope, i did it good.
So much to do...

My goals in the game? Peace for all. That is not possible, so i have peace with everyone and earn money by selling ships to the others, because they are at war with others.
And I help to stop the expansion of the Xenon. But don't help to much, because of your earnings. ;-)

Well, it's like "Hey, you are fabricating this thing I need. You either sell it to me or I take it by force!". And when you are manually operating your own traders, you hide this from everyone.

I think you do get a discount from being friends? Pretty sure you do. A massive discount at +27.

Of course the best thing is trade subscription with factions available at +20 rep. This shows you all their stations, wares and prices without you needing assets near and not sure if that offers a discount as well? I don't think it does?

Trade subscription only shows data for stations you already know. It doesn't reveal undiscovered stations.

Your traders know though. They know where they are and what they're selling and they only have to visit once and then you can see it.
